Friend applying for PR with criminal record

I have a friend who has passed the qualified period 5 years. But he has got a criminal record against him which happened 1 year ago.
Would his infinite leave to remain application be refused? Please give any advice. Thanks

see guidance to see based on the offence when the offence would be considered spent

According to one article in freemovement regarding ILR applicants..

"Lastly, none of these rules or concessions is absolute: criminal offences or particularly serious evasion of immigration control will render a person ineligible."
