Schengen Visa Query

Post by puri123 » Wed May 17, 2023 8:38 am

Hi,

Just like to get some clarification regarding the Schengen Visa requirements for holder of Stamp 4 EUFAM Card issued by Ireland. Friend of mine is planning to visit Belgium, France and Switzerland and unsure whether he needs visa to visit these countries or not. He has checked with the embassies and advised that he needs visa.

Any clarification about this is much appreciated. Thank you.

Most likely, he does, but:

a) Is he travelling alone?
b) If not, is he travelling with EU family member?
c) Who is the EU family member and what's their nationality?

For consideration: https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/t ... schengen-1
Your residence card was issued by a non-Schengen country and you are travelling to a Schengen country

You do not need a visa if you have a residence card as an EU national family member issued under by an EU country other than the country your EU spouse / partner is a national of. You must be either travelling together with your EU spouse / partner or you are joining them in the Schengen country
Warning
If you have a residence card as an EU national family member and you are not accompanying or joining your EU spouse / partner in the Schengen country, you must apply for a visa to enter that country.

Exception for Switerland

You will need a visa if you are travelling to Switzerland with a non-EU family member's residence card issued by a non-Schengen area country – this applies if you are travelling alone, together with your EU spouse / partner or if you are joining them in Switzerland.
4EUFAM doesn't give you a free pass to go to a Schengen area, since Ireland is outside Schengen.

Also rereading the information above, I want to highlight Swiss exemption:
You will need a visa if you are travelling to Switzerland with a non-EU family member's residence card issued by a non-Schengen area country – this applies if you are travelling alone, together with your EU spouse / partner or if you are joining them in Switzerland.
So whatever the answers are, this person needs a visa to Switzerland.

if the person has STAMP4 EUFAM CARD and travelling with eu citizen to Schengen countries therefore doesn't need to apply Schengen visa , he or she can travel without using schengen visa but if he or she wants to apply for visa at the embassy then it is free of charge

Switzedland is the exception - visa is needed regardless.
