Status of the newborn

Hi all,
Me and my wife are on HSMP Visa in UK since December 2007. Now my wife is expecting and I want to know the status of the newborn. Will the new born gets British nationality immediately or any other benefits being born in the UK.

The baby gets BC only if you are an ILR holder.

As for benefits, it's whatever the EC page on your passport says and I m pretty sure it's a big "No recourse to public funds".
