Living outside Ireland while waiting for naturalisation

Post by 33overhere » Mon Nov 13, 2023 12:44 pm

On the immigration website it says "If you are outside the State for longer than 70 days after you submit your application, you must notify ISD by letter or email to explain why":

That seems to say an ongoing connection to (26-county) Ireland is required, but it could be satisfied by regular visits every two months instead of living here fulltime.

But then the actual law still says "intends in good faith to continue to reside in the State after naturalisation", so it looks like we shouldn't put much weight on the immigration FAQ page.

Anyone have real world experience of this though? In my own case I'm definitely staying to work and I plan on being a long term Irish resident, but houses are much cheaper up North so I'd buy there and commute if I could get away with it.
