Step Child Adoption

Post by AJordan » Tue Dec 05, 2023 2:08 am

Im British and my wife is on spouse visa. My step child (her daughter, 8 yrs old) was left in Asia as I haven't reached Financial requirements yet dependent visa (I will do next year, but worried of the £38 increase).

My question is, can I adopt my step child so we can bring her in the UK? My wife is working but we were told we cannot combine salary yet because she's on her first spouse visa. Child's Bio dad is not around and is not listed in her birth certificate.

Im just checking our options here if and when the increase in financial requirement happens which would make it impossible for us to get the child. She is currently living with my wife's cousins and we are keen to get her asap.

We were informed there's a 6 months minimum of living together (which we did when I stayed for 7 months overseas)and the child grew up with me as her dad, calls me Dad too.

PS.
If this isnt allowed or considered adoption from overseas, can we bring her in the UK under tourist visa and apply the adoption bere whilst on tourist visa?

Thank you.

Not an expert on this, but note that visitor visas cannot be used to apply for another visa. Visitors do not have any residency status and are expected to leave UK by the expiry date.

Maybe this link could give you some pointers regarding inter country adoption:

Perfectly understand that, but we wont be applying for another visa, we will be applying for her adoption whilst on tourist visa

Adoption tends to be a lengthy process, even for British children within the UK.
Whether this can be done for a visiting foreign child within the 6 months visitor visa duration must be questionable.
I will leave it to other members here to comment further.
