Important question regarding my referees for my UKF Nationality application

Post by gregorytestbrawn3 » Sat Dec 09, 2023 4:57 pm

I am currently in the process of my UKF nationality application, and one of the requirements is to nominate a second referee. This individual should hold a professional standing and should not be a relative, having known me for a minimum of three years. I have identified potential british referees with professional experience in Market Gardening, Culinary Arts (Chef), or Caregiving. I am seeking clarification on whether these professions would be considered suitable for the National UKF application. :D

Furthermore, I am curious about the permissibility of having a resident of the country where I presently reside, who holds a professional standing in their field, complete and sign the form as a reference. I am a citizen of Finland. :D

I would greatly appreciate any assistance or guidance in addressing these inquiries. My UKF application has been pending for a considerable period due to this requirement, and I am eager to expedite the process as I am applying for a British university. 8) 8)

Any form of help is immensely appreciated. Thank you sincerely for your time and consideration.

You find the list of accepted professions here: https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passp ... ignatories. Please note that by "professional standing" it is meant in most cases that they must be members of a chartered body - I don't think the professionals you listed would qualify unless they are members of chartered bodies. Please note that the other referee has to be British and either over 25 years old or a professional from the list I linked.

Also see this, page 10 in https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... als_v4.pdf
Referees
All applicants for British citizenship must provide 2 referees to establish their identity.
You must only contact the referees if this could resolve concerns about the
application and you have the authority from a senior caseworker to do so.
You must ensure that the following requirements are met:
The referee must:
• have known the (adult) applicant for at least 3 years
• a British passport holder and either a professional person or aged over 25 (at
least one referee must be a professional person)
The referee must not:
• be related to the applicant or the other referee
• be the applicant’s representative
• be employed by the Home Office
• have been convicted of an imprisonable offence in the last 10 years for which
the sentence is not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
For child applicants at least one of the referees must be a person who has dealt with
the child in a professional role such as a teacher, doctor, health visitor or social
worker. Where a child cannot provide a referee who has dealt with them in a
professional capacity and has provided documents to show that they have attempted
to do so, you can accept 2 referees who meet the criteria for referees on adult
applications.
Where the applicant is living outside of the UK and does not know a British citizen
passport holder who is a professional or over the age of 25, a commonwealth citizen
or a citizen of the country in which they are residing may complete and sign the form
providing they meet the other requirements and the consul considers their signature
to be acceptable.

If you don't find a British citizen from the list you can try looking for someone you know in Finland that is member of a chartered body.
All advice comes from personal research and experience and should not be regarded as professional opinion.

Assuming that it is a university in England (rules for the other nations of the UK vary), keep in mind that you will be treated and charged as an overseas student even if you are a British citizen, if you haven't resided in the UK for three continuous years before the first day of the first year of the course.
