Citizenship status for child born before receiving ILR?

Post by BlackViper96 » Sun Dec 17, 2023 3:32 pm

Hi all,

I am currently on Skilled worker visa and I recently submitted application for ILR. My wife is my dependent and she's 8 months pregnant. So my child will be born before I get my ILR. I know if I already have ILR my child will get UK citizenship. My question is, if my child is born several months before I get ILR, is there a way for my child get UK citizenship?

Thank you in advance!

There always is, but depending on different factors,

Where will the child be born, UK or abroad?
Not a qualified immigration adviser. Use links and references given to gain confirmation and/or extra information.

The child will be born in the UK.

Also just further info if relevant, my home country doesn't allow dual citizenship unless the other citizenship was given from birth. So for me, for example, because I don't have UK citizenship from birth, I cannot have it without renouncing my home country citizenship.

The child will be born in the UK.
Then you register him as British once you get ILR.
