Got my tier 1 ... what next??

Post by Aakash31 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 4:02 pm

Hi,

I got my tier 1 visa today. I wanted to know:
1. What formalities need to be taken care before I leave for the UK?
2. On reaching the UK - what needs to be done?

Can someone giude me about these issues?

Thanks

Great stuff, from which VFS office did you apply from?

Not sure about your queries, sorry

Congrats Aakash..

Keep all your doc's handy during immigration at UK airport

If you have done your medical tests for VFS Visa keep that too handy esply TB Medical report.. if you have not done the TB test go to one of the medical laboratories and get it done..

good luck

It is advisable to bring along all the stuff you provided in support of your Tier -1 Application.

Coming from India, you should also carry a chest x-ray (especially the report) - will save you a couple of hours wait at the immigration check.

Proof of accommodation arrangements; Proof of funds - Cash/ traveler's cheques or Bank Account etc.

hope that helps,

Once in the UK, you should at least do the following:
- buy a map of the place you intend to stay;
- buy a UK PAYG SIM card for your mobile phone;
- buy a mobile broadband for your laptop/computer;
- open UK bank account if you haven't done this already;
- research jobs (you now have broadband :) ) and send out CVs to agencies;
- find a more permanent accomodation or wait until job offer. It is likely, in this climate, that you will have to move outside of London for jobs;
- don't watch TV, as it is both depressing :( and you have other important things to do right now. You need to focus on getting that new job!
- return to this site for support;

I focussed more on making it past the immigration check. Your post is more like a survival kit post arrival :)

They did call my employer and sent a mail. Our HR reverted back. Later they did call me on my desk and checked with my approx CTC. I am sure they got the details of my desk no from the HR.

You are absolutely right! And the two most important rules of survival are (1) be prepared and (2) never give up!
