everything is sitting on thin ice...no one knows exactly what will happen. Each and everyone of us have different circumstances so LUCK may use its charm here and there. best of luck.

It wont make a big difference...

only 3.4 million people out of work in the UK as per DOL/ home office statistics.. one more wont make it any worser.

if you are rich and can afford to stay without job / motivation / salary for one year, then come here... else stay put in you jobs for 1 year atleast. dont ruin like we did ours

People stay where you are. Coming to UK now will be a regretful decision. People are being laid off here, there and everywhere. You will only spend money looking for jobs now, if you come here. Wait for 4-5 months more before taking a decision.

I have my b-in-law a UK citizen with a job there and I can stay with them for as long as I wish.

But I have a family here (wife & kid) with wife working but I have EMIs to support which can't be supported by my wife alone.

I have an MBA from IIM and BE from NIT with 15+ years of experience with telecom operators in India only.

How many months of EMI reserve money should I keep?

I wou;ldnt advise coming here if you are looking for work right now - things are not good here in the job market and prob wont be for some time!!! I say stay put until things settle a bit more - every company is making cut backs nit hiring new staff! It is crazy the last few months!

To be honest I would wait and see if things improve here first - dont come unless 1-the market improves or 2-you have a job already lined up! It will too difficult otherwise :(

As mentionde before...If you have an assured job here then proceed but if you will just starting to look for a job then please be aware of what's happening across the job industry as a whole especially when a family depends on you!

think twice or 'x' times before taking the plunge.

I dont know about main frames, but application / programming stuff like C, C++, J2EE and .NET are facing the worst situations. I hardly find jobs for them.

C++ is a slight exception. In the south of england, there are some c++ jobs. But they are only for British citizens who are eligible for Security clearance. I asked a consultant how I can get one... they said I need to have spent 5 years in the UK as a resident or hold a brit passport.

I will better visit hell than stay here !

Hi Ramesh,

I think your friends you right, mainframe market in UK was dull before recession and now it seems completely dead. I have seen even some days when there is no opening at all. I think it is better to wait for some time.

I know atlest 6-7 people all British, who are into Mainframes and now looking for work from atleast last 5 months. This can give you some idea. Also not all openings are advertised, lot of them are filled through refrences or people who have worked previously in that commpany.

thanks guys for the update. I am worried my friends are asking me to think of visiting uk only by mar2010. Will it be ok if I postpone for 10months what if the market is not up by mar2010 i am worried should i postpone again after seeing the market.

I can't say what will be mainframe market after 10 months but for sure this is not the right time to come here mainly for mainframe professionals.

Being optimistic in this economy is all wre have!

Advising someone to wait and see isn't exactly telling them to jump on the next plane and get here is it?
