Well, I am not surprised really.

I have seen this situation deteriorate from much earlier. When I came in November, it was slightly better. Infact, I found more calls during Nov / Dec (despite Christmas) than now.

I think between Jan - March the slow down hit really bad. And April onwards its gone very very quiet now.

Infact, the news is that now due to the lack of opportunities and also that not much recruitment happening anywhere in the UK, recruitment consultants are also hit. I know of atleast 2 recruitment consultants who have been laid off already.

IT, Banking and other Services sector has been hit very badly. Manufacturing too.

Also, these days the 'British jobs for British people' slogan is being trumpted everywhere. I think this campaign was started by the politicians in February and since then on you can hear it often.

British jobs for British people. Well, I am not one. Yet. Dont know if I will ever.

So you can sense the reluctance in employers / even consultants because you dont happen to be a British national.
