Aerospace & Mechanical Job Search in UK

Post by vk_tier1 » Tue Apr 07, 2009 4:36 pm

Helllo All

I am from India and I got my Tier-1 recently (MARCH15).
I could able to find out lot of info about IT jobs and Job search in this forum but no sucess in Aerospace.
I am in FE analysis using ANSYS with 5.5 years of experience.
Please guide me in job search. I tried posting my resumes on various job sites, but no luck till now.
Any guidance?

prolonged silence means = people dont know

and also that not many non-IT people come to the UK. It could be because they dont get anything over here usually. The western economies never opened to other disciplines. IT was the only exception

And now even IT is gone the drain.

Better wake up soon and pack your bags home. I did during the 2nd week of June and have lined up interviews in Bangalore for next week.

there's a handful I guess of non-IT T-1/guys here. But there are some...it's a matter of specialisation I guess. There are a lot of skilled eng'g workers from the EU and selected NOn-EU countries (those that require a visa for instance)

hi markie,

if i m not wrong, surrey and aberdeen are famous for oil & gas design companies. ur location-surrey forcify me to ask u a simple question like others.
as u r in surrey, i wd like to ask u abt job opportunity in surrey and aberdeen for process engineer having 8 yrs. experiance in oil & gas design consultancy in INIDA,JAPAN and GULF.

i hv seen lot of vacancies on oilcareers.com in aberdeen. r they real or fake?

i m planning to spent my one month vacation of in london in august.

can u give me ur honest opinion?

rgds,

cut the crap silk route

oil companies in surrey ?? surrey is just on the boundaries of london and you expect refineries to exist there ? no chance.

what is this crap ? refine your geographies please.

i can understand aberdeen - although i have never been there and its in scotland i think.

if you are googling for the addresses and find lot of surrey mention, then it means that they have a small office in surrey (close to london).

i dont see how a process engineer will be sittting in a mktg office though.

We are not talking here of physically oil refineries I'm afraid. Surrey has one of the oil majors here...ExxonMobil - strategic planning group in Leatherhead- the group that link up with the real refinery.

KBR - one of the major oil/gas contractors is also close to ExxonMobil offices.

Another example is Petrofac - which has a engineering group based in Woking but liases with their Aberdeen ofc as well as in London and other parts of the world.

Supply and trading of Kuwait Oil International is also based in Woking...

Majority of the players are in London (been here and there so I know the trials).

Getting this type of information is very important in getting your first work in the UK.

Nitboy and Silkroute...we are here to share info and some personal hands on experience...some may be applicable to you and some are not.

Try avoiding such petty arguments...that's not helping both of you at all.

Sometimes lady LUCK plays a trick on you in someway or another...just keep trying.

For silk route - I've been in the design as well as operation so pays to be flexible.

thnx markie,

ur neutral opinion/information noted carefully.

u r absolutely right abt exxon,KBR,petrofac,FW...these r all design companies and they r involved in designing of oil plant since last 40-50 years like BP and BG.

cn i request u for further information,if u dont mind?
as i mentioned earlier, i hv observed that everyday 3-4 vacancies for process engineers is being displayed on oilcareers.com.do u thnk this many vacancy is possible in this time? i understood that all basic engineering is being done by above mentioned companies in the world.even though i hv doubt abt oilcareers.com

if u r in this field , u must hv certain idea. plz..suggest

thnx

Regd job market for mech engg

Post by horizon123 » Thu Jul 02, 2009 2:19 pm

Hi,

I know a mech engg who was working in UK with a reputed automobile industry. He is here in UK for more than 5 yrs now. But he has been an unfortunate victim of recession like many others. Since last 4 mths he is looking for a job.
For automobile industry, the job market is scary....my suggestion for you would be...if you are in a job in India....please continue to be there. Do not make a mistake to leave your existing job and come here in UK. If you are already in UK, then I wish you all the very best for your job hunt.
Also FYI, in aerospace companies, they say that you should be eligible for security clearance. Please google to understand the eligibilty for diff levels of security clearance.

I totally agree - 100%. Auto industry and aero sectors are in doldrums at the moment. companies are shedding jobs or having shortened work weeks.

Silk_route...

Some of the openings in oilcareers.com may be just for pooling resources only and the recruiter will cherry pick for the lot. try other jobsites...
Reed engineering, Thomas Telford,Totaljobs and oilandgasjobs.com

as mentioned below by Horizon, its better to keep your feet wherever you are.

I mean - if you guys have found any jobs yet?
Today I read Jag is sending home another 300, and Lloyds plc will pack off 1200. They are saying unemployment will hit a peak of 3.4 million by mid of 2010.
