I was under impression that Air India allows 28 Kgs.

Most of the Airlines will allow 20 kg only for Economy Class. British Airways has an option that is u pay Rs. 5000, you will be allowed to take One baggage extra not more than 32 Kg.

Call them and find out.

There could be a difference between what the permissible baggage allowance is and what is actually allowed. But do you really want to be at the mercy of check-in staff and pay exorbitant charges on per kg basis?

BA allows you to book excess baggage online & you would get 30% off their excess baggage charge. Cost depends on how much excess you carry but budget anywhere between 5k to 9k.

BTW, can you not cut down any items. Almost all items are available here. Assuming you pay 8k (~£100) for baggage - are you sure the things you bring are worth more than this money here?

The differnce is between what the actual allowance is and what check-in team may say. if you want to go by their words its your choice. The baggage allowance is alos printed on the ticket and conditions of fare. If your baggage exceeds the limit there is a chance that you might have to pay an exorbitant rate on a per kg basis.

When it comes to airlines, if you are outside permissible regime - be it anything, you are actually at the mercy (read discretion) of the people manning airports- security staff, airline ppl and airline crew.

jetradar.com is the only place I go to search flights now, after consistently finding them to find the best deals. They don't 'promote' any particular airline, but are totally transparent, plus they include the extra fees and taxes that you know you have to pay but many other 'comparison' sites leave off. This is helpful, as you can make a fair assessment of which is the best price.

I think increased baggage in AirIndia is allowed if your journey starts in UK(means UK -Ind and then Ind-UK) but not in the otherway round!
