Which visa fee Category

Post by GeoUK » Mon Aug 03, 2009 10:15 pm

Hi Guys,
I have a quick question.
I'm Brazilian born with Italian citizen and settled in the UK.
I want to bring my mum over. I'm going to apply for her visa in Brazil.
I'm checking on UKBA website and there are quite a few categories that I can apply and I'm confused.
http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/visafees/

Category Settlement:
Child or dependent relative of a settled person 585
Family reunion Free of charge
Category: Others
Family member of an EEA national Free of charge

Which category should I apply under?

Thanks

Geouk you can only bring you mum in under EU rules, how old is she by the way?

If you acquire British passport , then you will be able to bring her in under national rules as well, provided she is 65 years and older and dependant on you.

For your mum to qualify as Article 2 family member under EU rules, you will have to demonstrate that she is financial dependant on you.

Good luck Geouk

Hi OBIE Thanks for your reply.
I don't hold a British citizenship, only Italian.
My Mum is 48 years old.
She is currently working back home, but the money is not enough, so I send her money on monthly basis. I've doing it for the past 7 years and I can prove it.
Under which category do you think I should apply?

Thanks again

GeoUk you can only bring your mum in under Eurpoean rule, as she is quite young and still working, you will need to prove that she is purely dependent on you for her basic needs, and that without such provison, she will not be able to meet her essential daily rquirements.

As you already know the visa is issued free of charge. She will be issued with an EEA family permit, and once she enters the UK, you will need to apply for an EEA family permit for her, same process as your Wife's.

All the best
