One more off the list from year 2006 :D

Applied in Sep 06.
Exactly after 36 months, the letter arrived today.

looks like they are genuinely clearing 2006 backlog.

Best of luck 2006 applicants.
your letters are around the corner as well.

Hi All,
I recently got my approval letter.
Applied June '06.
Sent additional docs late '08.
Was with minister for exactly 6 weeks.

I don't have regular access to the internet these days so it's not that I'm ignoring people if I don't reply.

Good luck to all still waiting.

I have applied my citizenship in Sep 07. In recent months my salary has been freeze, I am thinking to apply for family income suppliment with one dependent Irish born child. The social welfare office told me I will be eligible for some small amount (weekly), since my weekly wage with one dependent child less than their threshold/limit.

So, I am concern do this effect my citizenship application?

Your answers will be appriciated.

Thanks

Maybe not the right place to put this....have you noticed?

Most of the people I know who got their passport are a bit frustrated because in their passport the place of birth is replaced with the country code rather than actually writing the country name.

For Example:
Place of Birth: Cork, Ireland (irish passport for irish born)
Place of Birth: COL (irish passport for columbia)
Place of Birth: DNK (irish passport for Danemark)

This could be **discriminatory** when you are traveling....I would rather have my place of birth written in plain english like the french, british do.

It should be changed. It does not seem right...

Just a thought.

I agree. I don't know whether it breaks any laws, but at first glance it certainly does appear to discriminate.

Place of Birth, if Denmark, should be Denmark - not DNK. DNK is not a place, it's a group of letters. I certainly wouldn't know what DNK is supposed to mean unless I was told.

In what way is abbreviating your country of birth into an internationally standardised three letter form in any way discriminatory?

Discriminatory implies prejudice, as all countries have their own three letter abbreviation how can this be prejudicial?

Mine for instance is ZAF for South Africa, perfectly acceptable.

The ISO standard abbreviations can be seen here:

And your intelligent point is ? The Irish born in Ireland do not *IRL* on their passport...They have cities and town were they were born.

This to me is already an administrative difference....and shoudn't be.
Think !

Because somebody born in Waterford does not have their place of birth as "WAT". Similarly, someone born in Dublin does not have "DUB" in their passport. If such abreviations were used, then no, there would be no discrimination.

I accept that the difference is town and country, but it makes no sense to put DNK instead of Denmark.

EDIT: Quite right nanette, "IRL" is not used either!

Hi!

Congratulations Tom4. I am pleased to hear your good news and delighted for you.

I called them yet again today and I was told the following:

1. My application is at an advanced stage of processing.
2. My Garda & Social work report is back.
3. Waiting for one final report. (From whom???)
4. They can't put a time frame on it?
5. They did not tell me if my application was with the minister yet.

I wonder at what stage is my application at? I suspect that its with the minister but I dont know this for sure.
How long will it take from this stage onwards.

My timelines are as follows:

Applied: September 06.
Acknowledged: October 06.
Additional Documents: November 08.
Garda + Social welfare reports: August 09, (Making further checks).
Latest: Application at advanced stage of processing (What does this mean?)
