Happy new year to all!

The story so far... I am a UK citizen and married a Filipina in March 2009, with the help of this amazing forum we got to Bulgaria and we have the family permit to the UK. We have been forced to return to the UK earlier than planned due to my mother falling over and breaking both arms...eek!

1. My wife is 7 months pregnant now and obviously we need to get her checked in to a doctors/hospital. The question is what exactly we need to do in order to do this?

2.The EEA Family Permit expires on 18 May 2010, will I be required to prove return flights back to Bulgaria? (This happened in The Philippines). I don't want any additional stress with the airline refusing to let my wife board.

3. Once we are back in the UK, I believe that we need to apply for EEA2 to get a UK residence card for my wife, I am however under the impression from what I have read here that she can overstay the EEA family permit without a problem? I am very sorry to ask basic questions of you all but I have been forced into leaving sooner than expected!

Thank you for any further help with our situation, without the help of you all we wouldn't have the visa and be able to return to the UK, and be with or care for my mum.

1. Register her with a GP (preferably yours) asap. They should refer her to a hospital.

My sister phoned up the doctors surgery which we will be using (the same as my mum). We were told that Ann will need a bank statement or utility bill as proof of address. If that is the case it could take some time to get registered. Any opinions on this?

Hi Andy, we got back last October. Apply for her national insurance number as when you receive the letter, it's easy to open a bank account which then starts the ball rolling... Good luck mate!

Just thought I would give a quick update.

My wife gave birth to our baby girl on Wednesday, and both are doing great.

Getting registered at the doctors was easy, we just needed to open a bank account in her name for proof of residency. We are still awaiting her National Insurance Number, but think that is finally getting sorted.

I just wanted to say that everything has gone brilliantly and to thank everyone for the amazing help we recieved, which enabled us to get where we are today.

it all depends where you from etc...i remember that catch 22 situation where you cant get NI untill you get a job and you cant get a job untill you get NI... at the time not many peopple liked putting you on a temp NI number....

Indeed - although the government makes it very clear that a NI number is no proof of right to work.

However, there is a way around the problem. If you can proof that you are job seeking, you can apply for a NI number. I think you need 3 job applications with a month or so, check the details with your job center. Having a NI number certainly makes it a lot easier to find work, unless you are dealing with a place such as a university where they have experience with international workers.
