ChildCare Vouchers

Post by umanghere » Mon Mar 16, 2009 5:23 pm

My company have a policy where in you can get childcare vouchers(BusyBee) against a portion of salary sacrifice and this helps in reducing your overall tax liability.

As a HSMP migrant one cannot use 'Public funds' I did bit of research to ensure that using these vouchers is not considered under public funds.

What we are not qualified is Child Tax Credit/Working Tax Credit/

Further details about these.

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/childcare/interaction-tc-cv.htm

Nowhere on the homeoffice website in the document of public funds I see mention of the word 'child care vouchers' which gives me a feeling that these are NOT considered under public funds.

It is a part of your salary given to you in form of vouchers .

Still I would like seniors and others to please share your views if I am correct .

If somebody is using them and confirm it would be great.

umanghere, those vouchers are paid for by your employer, not the Government, so of course they are not Public Funds.

But care! If you take the vouchers your salary will be less, and do you need to renew your visa, and salary is important in that visa renewal? That is, do make sure that taking the vouchers if yes, good for tax and NI, but not bad for visa renewal.

For previous earnings- your gross earnings will be considered-so if you sacrifice part of it to get childcare vouchers to reduce your tax bill (gov approved) then technically you earned it, so it counts toward ur earnings. Can you sacrifice what you have not earned? Think about it.
Pls note that you are the one paying for this under salary sacrifice scheme and not ur employer.

If that was the case it would not be effective for tax purposes.

TTOE, the evidence for what you have posted?

TTOE, that link supports my argument! Not yours!

Suggest you read the section headed "What do employees need to consider if they are thinking about entering into a salary sacrifice arrangement?", and as well as the bullet points listed there I would add :-
  • their future application for a visa renewal

This section is strictly the "TAXMAN"`s way of saying if you decide not to pay me tax on this part of you earnings then when you need me for help I wont count this part of your earnings that you are shielding away from me .

All in all is still part of your total remuneration package for as long as this is not a refund of monies you have previously spent i.e. reimbursements read the Tier 1 Guide for Previous earnings-Allowance section.

You are continuing to misread that HMRC document. Suggest you fully take account of the sentence "Salary sacrifice is a matter of employment law, not tax law.".

John, very good now you are talking-if your employer states that your earnings before salary sacrifice is your gross salary or earnings then so it is.that takes the case to Employer`s letter to state ur gross figure inl S Sacrificed.

Please note that somebody on this forum had childcare vouchers counted towards his gross earnings by the HO.
