If they have only debited the money then it means that they've received the application and taken the money to start initial checking. You'll normally receive an acknowledgement letter within about a week. It then gets to the caseworking team for allocation and allocation to an individual caseworker seems to take up the most time probably depending on caseworker case loads.

Applications that went in around Feb-March seems to be taking around 3 weeks from submission to receipt of approval should everything be straightforward i.e. application and supporting documentation is complete and all initial checks are satisfied.

thanks
I think they need your passport to check entry and exit records.
Oh yeah, I think that's another reason from what I recall as you have to enter every exit and entry record during the qualifying period on the application form which then has to correspond with the Visa/stamps on the passport/s you submit.

I believe that they might need your passport (or old passports) to show proof of ILR unless you've sent them other documentation to show this? If you had to travel, it would have been best to go through NCS as they take a copy of your passport instead of sending it off. I only sent my driving license as I had to because it is the ID I used to prove who I was when taking the Like in the UK Test.
Gave them HO letter as ILR proof. Already submitted, so lets see if they ask for anything else :P

Quick update from when I rang IPS today to query where my passport application has got to.

Nice man answered and checked my details. He said that the Durham passport office is processing my application. I applied via Check and Send on 8th of April and apparently they only received it on Mon 12th. It has passed initial checks as of today and awaiting an examiner to examine it which takes roughly another 2 working days. Once it has been examined, a letter inviting me to ring the nearest IPS interview office will be sent along with a ref number.

So that means I'll give it tomorrow and Monday till I ring them again. Hopefully they will have examined it and sent the letter off and hopefully just provide me with the interview ref number like some people here seems to have been able to get hold of so I can book an interview earlier.

After the interview, it seems to take around 4 working days to receive the passport and 2 working days prior to receive supporting docs back?

Nearly there! :)

Not beyond the ACK letter - not expecting to hear until mid-may at the earliest - I'm assuming 6 weeks is the fastest I'm going to hear anything - and given what other people are writing - it might be more like 2 months, which is a shame as it puts us into peak passport season as well.

Patience is a virtue when dealing with the Home Office.
