I prepared myself for at least 6 months wait. I am now thinking of booking a hoiliday in UK as I can't get out of the country without my passport. so the life is as usual...

Thats the ideal thing to do. But in actual fact, its easier said than done.. at least for me anyway.. :D

Hi all,

Has anyone requested to expedite their application under medical condition of a family member or may be some other compassionate reason ? :?:

My father was very ill in hospital and I wasn't sure if he was going to make it. This was explained in a letter and also mentioned by my MP when I got him to intervene and as you can see I'm still waiting so it made no difference.

Thankfully my father is ok for now :D and when I eventually get my ILR flying out to see him will be the first thing I do.

they never held a gun on our heads and said now you apply for indefinite stay in the UK
Some may even classify such justifications as, perhaps, bordering on displaying ‘Stockholm syndrome’.
well not certainly mines
Good for you.

As for me, I would rather display a bit more empathy in my posts to the plight of applicants whose life is kept on hold for months on end owing to certain whims and fancies of a rather, relatively speaking, an unresponsive system that takes very little account of the mental stress/anguish of thousands of legal migrants who have contributed to the UK Economy (paying fees to the Universities they attended) and then paid £820 when applying for ILR.

my friend optimist_eternal sorry if I hurt or offended you or for that matter anybody else in this forum, i do apologise whole heartedly. All i was trying to say that the home office attitude towards application sent to them, as per the comment you made regarding applicants whose life is kept on hold for months " i am in the same boat as all this good people in the forum, my life is also kept on hold since my father in law is very ill, and I cannot make it back home, i have deleted that particular post to keep harmony in this forum

Got ILR

Post by bird » Wed Apr 21, 2010 5:26 pm

Hi Guys,

Just Thought I'd add share my experience. Firstly, I thank God for receiving my ILR and also thank the seniors on this board (most of whom have already got their ILRs, Oluwa and the rest)

Anyway, i applied for ILR on 10 year basis
Appli sent: 6th Nov and rec'd by UKBA on7th Nov 09
Money debited 17th Nov and Acknowledgment 17th Nov
ILR issued: 1st March
ILR received: 21 April

I must say the waiting especially after 4 months was very stressful. First 3 months was a breeze. I called the UKBA for the first time on Monday 19 April and was told by the lady that my application has not yet been completed. Oluwa and the others always said it was useless to call thats why I never called but i was fed up on monday. I did contact my MP about a month ago and she did inform UKBA that i needed to travel. But i had already been issued with the ILR on 1st March.
Anyway hope this is helpful. :D

Bird's post has giving some clarification what the timescales were for Nov apps.

EDIT: oluwa112's info said they applied in 2008. I've assumed this should be 2009 and have edited accordingly.

Congratulations Bird!!! You must be ever so relieved! Plus the part about you calling them on monday just goes to show the rest of us how futile it is calling them as we will most certainly be non the wiser. Enjoy your freedom

It's a horrible feeling isn't it.

I spent this afternoon trying to find "good news stories" elsewhere on the web and the only other place is another immigration board but you have to pay to read the success posts. But from what I could see people who applied around the same time as you and I have been waiting 3-4 months to get their ILR. So I truely believe that the majority of Jan/Feb apps will hear before the end of May.

Also on the same board someone posted boonbin's letter from UKBA with the stats (boobin under another name?). An immigration expert (I think they're actually a solicitor) said they weren't worth the paper they are printed on, UKBA was simply sending a response to "get rid" of boobin. In their experience most long term ILR apps hear within ... the 6 month timescale. Strange how no-one came here and told us that.

I'm not going to say have patience, sa, because this waiting truely does suck. I suspicious of those who say they don't mind the wait and can stay positive the ENTIRE time

When did you apply? And did you see that any other Jan/Feb applicant had heard back?

January.

As I said you have to paid to read the entire success story post so I could only see headings and sub-headings. So unless they posted their waiting in the sub-heading I couldn't tell when they applied. I gave up after the first 2 pages.
