Child born to Parents having ILR

Post by lionking007 » Thu Apr 29, 2010 5:31 pm

Hello
We got our ILR a few months back and our baby is due very soon. I just wanted to know if we can directly apply for a child's british passport or we have to get the baby naturalised first.

Any help on the above will be very much appreciated.

Thanks
LK

The child is entitled to register as a citizen under section 1 (3). See here. No need to naturalise AFAIA.

Hello Foxy
Thank you very much. The form MN1 is very cumbersome..... Looks like it is designed for a general purpose. The first few sections are very confusing. Later sections are straightforward. Thank god that there is NCS service available.

Thanks once again for all your help

Child will be automatically British. Apply directly for passport. No need to fill in MN1 form

agree with f2k, since you already have ILR, any child born after ILR is automatically british

If born abroad?

What happens if he/she is born abroad and both the parents have ILR?

Thanks in advance!

When either parent has ILR - Registration as British at discretion (no entitlement). In other words, nothing!
When either parent becomes a British citizen - Registration as British. Read Born oversees.
