I am please to say I have completed my journey today! Complete timeline is as follows:

Date of application: 12/02/2010
Method: NCS Leeds
Category: EEA Family member - 6 years
Date account debited: 25/02/2010
Payment method: cheque
Date letter of approval received: 06/03/2010 (dated 25/02/2010)
Date of citizenship ceremony: 20/04/2010 (group)

Date of passport application: 30/04/2010
Method: check & send
Date received interview invitation letter and supporting document (2 separate envelopes): 13/05/2010
Date of interview: 18/05/2010
Date passport received: 20/05/2010 (quick or what?)

Mine was a very smooth process, except for the long wait for the citizenship ceremony but I refused to pay extra for a private ceremony.

Good luck to everyone waiting.

Seems like most of you have received an approval letter first and then an invitation letter to book for the ceremony. However, in my case, I received just the 'invitation letter' which states that my application has been successful and that I now have to book a ceremony.

Any one else received just 1 letter? or probably my appoval letter got lost in the post :s
R-
Was your application single or family. I have family application submitted 8th March and no news yet!!!!!
I hope you see this and could reply. Thanks
Have you heard anything from HO Hesham

LOL, ziqbal, you made me laugh!
I think both yours and mine application landed on that chair. I've been waiting since 18/01/2010.

I think 18th day of month is somehow bad for us ... I applied on 18th March. What is your existing nationality anyway and have you contacted them and what do they say (almost four months for you)

Once I get my naturalisation, I would be applying for my wife and this time I am not going to use NCS service.

If you send you original document atleast you have an excuse to request for urgent treatment of application from UKBA.

I am Russian.
Yes, my girlfriend also applied for COA so we can get married here and they dragged the application for 3 months until I requested the passports back for an urgent travel and .. surprise, surprise - we got everything sorted within a day!
Anyway, not many options left but to wait....

Maybe its better we refer to it as decision letter rather than approval letter. Afterall one does not know whether its an approval or rejection till received

AT LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST

Submitted 8 March, reached HO 10 March, Debited ? 20 March.
Approval letter arrived today dated 13 May. I have worked out that whenever your decision they send the letters out once every Monday ( or any fixed one day in the week) only to reach by Fri-Sat.

And of course they got me to the wrong Council ( against my request) who do ceremony once a month instead of Sheffield where the have a ceremony EVERY WEEK. Next one is 16 June So I am going private.

Thank you all for the support and wish you all the best. Now I have to start reading about Passport application as I didn't want to count my eggs too early.

Apparently a decision has been made in the case of my wife. The letter has not yet been printed and should be with us within "2 weeks".
