Consider consulting with an OISC advisor.

Moderator is right look for OISC registered solicitors. Also which part of Britain are you from? people on here are from across the country, if not the world.
Me personally, we used

I say use a non profit making organisation such as the Immigration advisory service. I think the have fixed prices. Check their website. They are all over the country.

The thing is, non profit making organizations are always very busy, because they are non-profit making! so you may not get such a good quality service from them as they got too much jobs in their hands?!

By the way 712, I have just PM you, check your mail box!

They charged us £500 + VAT for same day ILR - They fill out your forms and go to Croydon for you. Prices on their website.
Considering they made several representations for us when things did not go well, I was happy with what we paid.

I never noticed them not being OISC but they say are registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority under SRA Registration No. 490903 and are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Sunrise Solicitors are also members of Immigration Law Practitioners' Association."

When dealing with the Home Office you need the best legal help you can afford. Believe me (We have been through a lot of anxiety with ILR) when those questions start popping in your head and you cant find an answer on here - Free or subsidised services go out the window!

Beware of IAS... I went to them in vain when my wifes Entry Visa was declined. Unless your a penniless refugee/ assylum seeker I would not touch them otherwise.
The very first thing they do is make you que for hours and means test you to see if they can get legal costs from the government. This is before any consultation.
If your working like I was they will either turn you away or charge you fees that are the same or above high street costs.

My personal experience of them and later observation is that they are in effect an organisation that thrives on immigrants who cant pay directly and are turned into cash-cows to raise revenues from whatever subsidies, stipends or what ever they get from the government.

No solicitor would be registered with the OISC, they don't need to be as they are already legally qualified. The OISC is just for immigration advisors.

Solicitors are the Devil's spawn.

You get to pay for the services of one of the partners so he can get a new Maserati, your case is actually given to some 17 yo numpty probably getting minimum wage on some government scheme, who looks it up on the internet and still gets it wrong.

You get good solictors and you get bad solicitors, but they all charge a fortune for their services. Very true!

You need to be careful with immigration advisors too. Some of them have very basic knowledge, all learnt online over a very short period, and as long as they pass a few relatively easy exams they can register with the OISC. So don't be fooled into thinking all advisors registered with the OISC are knowlegeble or experienced, some are a total waste of time and money.

In the application form there is a slot specially for OISC member number but no slot for solicitors who are regulated by SAR. So I believe choosing a OISC lawyer has certain advantage over non-OISC lawyer?? Anyone agree??

I always worried things will get lost through the post so I would prefer to go to lawyer office and hand in my passport, I am quite close to London so want to find a good one in London. I can see they charged a variety of fees, from 300-700 pounds + VAT. Above website said you get what you pay for, so should I find someone charge 500-700? any good one in london anyone reckon??

With all due respect to the OP's question. You have been entertained and lavished with "Many" helpful suggestions. Including the relevance of OISC and lawyers/solicitors... Yet you still ask the same question.

It's becoming like "How long is a piece of string and is it strong?"

There are hundreds if not thousands of solicitors in London. We have all taken the plunge. And sooner if not later you too my friend.
Good luck and eventually with your case also.

This has already been explained. Solicitors do not register with the OISC as they do not need to. Solicitors are already suitably qualified, so have no need to register with the OISC, which is why the application forms only have slots for OISC members, who are simply immigration advisers. OISC immigration advisers are not solicitors.

Solicitors do not register with the OISC.

The OISC is just for immigration advisers. That's all.

I apologize of asking the same questions again previously.
It is just because I had such a bad experience with One Stop Visa (said they have 30years experience in immigration), a solicitor firm in which I paid over 700 pounds and they closed down after 1 month, therefore I always has this shadow in my mind and start to doubt a lot of firms, I have lost my trust on them.
Thank you everyone which who have helped me in this topic!! Very much appreciated!!

You can try him.

Thanks.

Post by srsg » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:26 pm

can anyone please suggest specialist firm that deals with immigration for elderly parents' cases, i have spoken to many and the feeling i get is that this VISA is not common and most firm pretend to know this but havent really dealt in these cases.
I would appreciate an urgent reply as I want to apply before the new rules apply.

I can recommend even someone who charge 1800 for ILR... :D
Recently I was there and found out that she never heard about modernized guidance and that we are not allowed to be out of Uk more than 90/180 days.
I showed her the rule printed out on paper. she was surprised and asked where did you get it from? [/quote]
