Tuition classes income - what proof to produce

Post by kunnjraj » Fri Aug 27, 2010 10:29 am

Hello all,

I am working in a company as well as taking tuitions in the evening and weekends. Hence my earnings contain of two components viz salary and income from tuitions.

I want to apply for Tier 1 at the end of november and want to include the tuition income also for points. My question is

1) What proof should I give for tuition income which is acceptable to the assessment officer. I receive all my fees in cash and deposit in a bank account.

2) Is it advisable to apply through a consultant or self.

Would highly appreciate your responses.

thanx

Earnings that you wish to claim points for - no matter how it is earned - must be supported by documentary evidence(s) from 2 independent sources!

Read the policy guidance to understand the 2 documentary evidence(s) expected from self-employed applicants. Include those with the 2 evidences needed to claim points from salaried income.

Poll?

And, I hope you have your UTR, paying class 2 NI and tax self assessment done.
Pls do check the HMRC link for self employment for further info.
Also, check the required docs for self-employment in the tier1 PBS guidelines.

dima, you are making an assumption that the person is UK-based, which might not be the case, which is why I used the term "tax authorities".

Tx John!
Missed Op's location!!.
Op is applying from his home country, so no need for him to go into hmrc stuff!!
Yes, he has to go through the tier 1 self employment guidelines to make sure he submits relevant tax papers And other docs as per his home country.

Hi all,

thank you very much for your time and guidance.
I missed some important elements before seeking your views.

I was in UK on ICT visa from June 2008 to June 2010. In july 2010 I returned to India and from 1st august, i have started my tuition classes. This is the first month that i have received the tuition fees income. I have received some joining fees which i have deposited in my bank. I would pay tax on this income only in the year end. So till that time, i cannot have any income tax document.

What i have are these:-
1) Deposit in my bank account
2) Carbon copy of the invoices issued to the students.
3) Student details ( name and address)

Request your guidance.

thanx

1. Letter from certified accountant certifying your earnings from self-employment.
2. Bank statements showing payment credits.
