Citizenship ceremony

Post by KC8010 » Tue Jan 25, 2011 8:54 pm

Hello

Recently been approved for BC and just wondering. My approval letter states that I need to wait for my invitation to the citizenship ceremony and should be with me within 2 weeks of Jan 20th

my question is what details do they put on your certificate? Because my home address is fine however my passports and original docs including the approval letter was sent to my work address because I wanted to sign for them, do you think my work address will be on my certificate??

If this is likely should I call the home office?

Naturalisation certificates do not include the address of the person being naturalised.

It is a naturalisation certificate. It's like a birth certificate - you become a NEW Brit. :D
So only your name, date and place of birth is printed.
And, of course, date of ceremony.

KC8010 - maybe you can call your council.
If they are friendly enough they will say that they have your certificate there and can make an appointment for you.
Probably your invitation is stuck in a 2nd mail post room.

Oh, I see!
I didn't know that. I thought it was from the council directly.

I only got the acknowledgement letter yet...

Yes, that is correct invitation letter will be sent from UKBA...and after you could contact your council...they will then send you a letter and questionnaire to confirm a date for ceremony and if you don't like the date just agree another date or pay for a private ceremony.

In my case, I called my council immediately I knew from UKBA that they had posted my approval (it turns out to be an invitation letter) but they have not received my certificate then...immediately the council received my certificate from UKBA they just send me a letter confirming a date for public ceremony but I had to go for a private arrangement instead.

Some people receive both letters at the same time.
The others have them sent separately.
I also got 2 letters from UKBA - approval one and then (2 weeks later) invitation one.
However, I rang my council about a week after receiving approval letter and although I hadn't ivitation letter on me, they (council) had already all info and paperwork from UKBA. So I was able to book ceremony.
You will need to produce the invitation letter when you turn up at the ceremony as without it they won't be able to proceed. So don't book your ceremony too early or wait indeed 2 weeks for your invitation letter.
