I applied for surrender certificate on 13/04/2011 in VFS victoria and i was told it can take 15 days and currently some delays in process.

So i applied for the 6 months entry visa while applying for Surrender certificate and thinking about applying OCI in later months.

Yes we are allowed to apply for visa at the same time applying for surrender certificate.

Visit nearest VFS office:

1) fill up surrender certificate download from VFS website
2) Fill up online entry visa and print the application form and book appointment online. (http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/)
3) At VFS entrance take 2 tokens one for surrender certificate and another one for Entry visa
4) Submit first surrender certificate and then take a photo copy of the payment receipt and then go to the entry visa counter.

Entry visa can take upto 4 working days to be granted

Surrender certificate take upto 10 working days to be granted

I applied in Victoria VFS office

6 months entry visa --- is that a type of visa ? or tourist visa ?

Entry Visa is for Indian origin people who can travel multiple times and can re-enter many times without buffer of 2 months no entry
Tourist Visa is for foreign nationals and also everyone who can stay upto 6 months but cant re enter india until 2 months of there departure from india

FEES
6 months entry visa: £66
12 months entry visa £90
Surrender certificate: £112.34 per person
Please also visit: http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/
Let me know if you need more info. Hope above information helps you.

Thanks london2009uk...good stuff...

the vfs websites says that An Entry Visa is granted for a specific purpose (short term courses and unpaid internships) or other non-business related purposes. An Invitation letter is required from concerned organisation/authorities in India.

can i apply by post ? do the applicant need to make an appointment ?

Thanks

i would suggest you go in person to nearest VFS and apply as i heard horror stories of loosing documents and delay in application process. I am 100% positive ur eligible for entry visa if you held previously indian passport.

Good luck
