NCS:Ealing
Criteria - WP+HSMP+1yr permanent residence.
Date of Appoinment with NCS-15/04/2011
Date reached HO- 18 April 2011
Date of Debit card charged -
Acknowledgment letter-
Decision Made- Approval received -
Date of Ceremony booked for -

I was out of country from 14/04/06 to 17/04/06...The man at NCS said that I am not eligible as I was out of the country today, exactly 5 years back. But I argued that when the HO will receive the application it will be 18/04/11 and as per that time I was psycially in the country five years back. He asked me if you want to take risk go ahead and I did.... now sure how HO will react so bit nevervous....
After checking the Special Delivery proof online...I am relaxed now...:))

In the acknowledgment letter, do they put the official date of receipt of the application? Is it the application delivery date or the credit card debit date?

Model, In the acknowledgment letter what was the date of the receipt of the application mentioned, is it the date of receipt (as per royal mail) or the date of debit of credit card?

I think the date on the letter is the date when they take money out of your account, not the date your application reach HO. Also your process starts when the money has been taken out from your account. But don't forget HO has doubled the timing at the moment.

The date of receipt is key here as one should have been in the country exactly 5 years back. If they consider the payment date as the date of receipt then many applicants may face problems.

The receipt date ( this shows up on Royal mail tracking site and is signed for by UKBA)has to be the date UKBA will take your application date; and not when they take the fees, this is as per their guidance.
The NCS did have you sign that you will be in the country for 5 days after you send off your application, however this has now gone over 2 wks* but we cannot be responsible for the delay on their end.
*Appln recd on 30/4- money taken on 14/4(as per recent postings here).
I sent off mine on 6/04, recd on 7/4, no money taken yet.
I am going to be away for 2 wks, so hopefully will have got the ackn letter by then.
Best wishes

Can you please the reference to the guidance. Is it there in the guidance notes?

Guide AN, Sept 2010, P7

2.2 Fill in this table showing the periods you have been away from the UK during the last 5 years (3 years if you are married to or in a civil partnership with a British citizen). Insert the number of days you were away from the UK in the last column ignoring the day you left and the day you arrived back in the UK. If there is not enough room for all your absences then continue on page 13. Add up the total and write it in the space indicated.
Please note: You should also check that you were physically present in the UK 5 years (3 years if you are married to or in civil partnership with a British citizen) before the date that the application will be received by the UK Border Agency or other receiving authority (see page 17 “Where to send your application formâ€

The man told you wrongly as 5 years back was not "today", i.e. 15/04/06 but 16/04/06. 15/04/06 was "5 years plus 1 day ago" at the time of your appointment.
Assuming your application will be received and signed by UKBA on Monday 18/04/11 then 5 years back was 19/04/06 and you were in the UK since 17/04/06 so you'd be fine

Passport Application Timeline:

Method: Postal (with completed application form online - IPS prints and send it home for you to sign)
Application reached IPS: 11/04/2011
Payment deducted from my card: 12/04/2011
Supporting documents were returned: 14/04/2011
Letter asking to book interview: 15/04/2011
Date of Interview: 16/04/2011 - London Elephant & Castle
Passport received: tba

The process couldn't be any faster!
I thought that completing the online application form is much easier method. The process guides you through and put you in the right direction, which then avoids you forgetting to fill any details or tick any relevant boxes.

I also used this system because I had to give my details, parents details etc, and I hate when they do spelling mistakes. By doing this way I completed the form myself and it avoids then any spelling mistake, and I can rest assured that the passport will be correct!

I called them about 7pm on Friday to book the interview, and they had about 4 or 5 slots on Saturday morning in London, plus some other slots in the afternoon. I was surprised as I have seen people here having to wait about 2 weeks for an appointment in London, and I got 2 (myself and partner) for the very next day in London, and on a Saturday, which is convenient).

It should not matter, the process will take its own time.

In any case guidance also says that if the UKBA needs any further information they will write and expect a response in 3 wks or else they will go on with whatever they already have.
With only 8 working days in the next fortnight, I expect things will further slow down.
Best wishes

Just going through the new rules for visas and ILR. It is really pain to get the visa extension and ILR for those guys who have to apply just after 6th April 2011. Even application forms have been changed twice after the new rules for ILR. At least we have to be happy about citizenship that only the fee has been increased and no new rules and restriction. Waiting time for the decision of course has gone longer than the period it took for those application applied a month ago. Hope we all soon receive the good news.

Guys we hope to hear something from HO this coming week, or at least our application should move one step up i.e with the case worker.

Good luck to all who are waiting

I think when its with the case worker its just the matter of few days, as most of your eligibility and security checks are done when the case worker picks up your file
