is it a good plan to land in UK in July for job search

Post by Apprentice7 » Sun May 22, 2011 6:27 am

Hi,

May I know whether landing in UK in July for job search
is not a bad plan.

Usually the UK IT Job market seem to be dull from July to August end due to summer vacation time.

As UK IT Market seem to be good from this March, any prediction of how UK IT Job Market would be in July-August timeframe this year.

Thanks!!

Generally speaking, July is probably a good time of the year.

However, time of year doesn't have much to do with whether you will find the right job. Rather than concentrating on market conditions about the IT market in general (maybe July is a good time for Java developers but a terrible time for .net developers?), concentrate on getting your CV right and approaching the right people. Don't start looking for excuses why things will go wrong.

Regardless of what people say, there's always going to be 101 reasons why people didn't get a job and what a better thing than to blame the market. There's holiday season in December & January, Bank Holidays in March & April, summer holidays in July & August, run-up to holiday season in October & November. And then there's all the other reasons like companies budgets and financial year-ends.

Any reason why you say the IT market seemed to be good from March?

Mulderpf has given good advice and makes sense to start your job hunt as soon as you can and ensure you prep yourself and do your homework.

Generically speaking, I'd like to add that if one were looking at when its NOT a good time to come to the UK then the answer is definitely mid Dec to mid Jan - historically a time when the holiday season kicks in, a majority of the businesses are winding down or completing projects etc and gearing up for the festive season ahead. Its usually from late Jan than things get rolling again. While there are opportunities for contracting work, my statement is towards the overall market in comparison to other months of the year

All other months are fine and you can come anytime - recruitment processes take a month on average and almost 3 months in some cases so any month should be fine really
