Re-acquiring British Citizenship

Post by zahid.ali.anwar » Sat Jun 11, 2011 9:52 pm

Hi All,

I was wondering, if some one surrender its british citizenship due to any reason, will he be able to apply again in future and get it back?

Is there any difference of route to british citizenship....or the process/requirment is same for every one.

Please advise.
The question is... to be or not to be....

The situation is explained (fairly clearly) here.

Essentially, if you gave up British citizenship in order to acquire or retain another citizen and the renunciation of British citizenship was necessary in order to do that, you have a right to resume British citizenship once; subsequent resumptions after subsequent renunciations would be discretionary.

There are further complications and details, but in essence that is the situation.
