Here is my timeline:

Type : NCS
Date of submission : 03/05/2011
Date of debit of credit card : 12/05/2011
Date of receipt of acknowledgement : 16/05/2011 dated 12/05/2011
First Call to HO: 17/06/2011
Date of receipt of approval : TBA
Date of ceremony : TBA
Date of application for passport : TBA
Date of interview letter : TBA
Date of receipt of documents : TBA

17.06.2011: Called HO and was advised that the application has passed the initial checks and waiting to be allocated to a case worker. Waiting period is three months, however, its likely to be done earlier than that.

Seems the HO have picked up the pace. From the looks of things, they've received an overwhelming amount of applications at end of March. I think we will see a much faster approval time in the next week or two. Sit back, relax and enjoy the wait 8)

No ack letter yet.

Worried about the planned industrial action by various public sector unions - immigration staff belong to these groups!

This from a recent approval post:
Date of decision: 15/06/2011
Date of receipt of approval: 17/06/2011 (special delivery
It appears that postal applications get their documents by special delivery as they have their passorts being returned.

NCS applicants merely get a brown envelope by second class mail, which can take upto 10 days.

Has anyone approached the Council for an invite before actually gettting an approval letter but with the knowledge from HO that a decision had been taken sometime ago? Councils are supposed to receive the citizenship cetf at the same time you get an approval letter

For some reason, payments seem to take long for some people. For my application it took over 5 weeks!
If you're sure HO have received your application, don't worry. Sit back and relax, shouldn't be too long.

Does the number of applicants (ie in a family application) affect greatly the time it takes for an approval to come through?

It looks like April applications are being looked at at an impressive speed, but don't want to get my hopes too high too soon!

There is now a sticky on passport timelines, if you wouldn't mind sharing your IPS experience there that would be fabulous.

It is hard not to...as you think, hmmm, I could be one of those unlucky ones that's stuck waiting longer. :/ As nice as it is to see even a May applicant get approved, it really strikes me as unfair to still have some March and April applicants waiting. There really is no rhyme or reason to the way they do things it seems.
