Direct recruitment sites for various companies

Post by nshar1 » Sun Jul 24, 2011 12:54 am

I get fed up with the recruiters. There is more nuisance than help in job search.
UK job market has become too inefficient. Employers keep complaining that there is not good enough talent while job-seekers struggle to get to interviews.

I think direct applications to companies could be worth a try. There is no reason that these middlemen should be there.

Could we start posting links to companies web sites where CVs can be submitted.

Its really good, appreciate your effort.

Having a section for Careers is good. But, I think most of the companies take services of Job Consultant to find cadidates.

Good one here(lists 100 sites): http://www.clickajob.co.uk/top/best-100-co-s/
another good one(lists top 100 ftse companies): http://www.clickajob.co.uk/top/ftse-100/

I realize this works...I have been able to bypass the recruitment agencies and thus no awkward questions and no long meaningless calls.

Just an example of an awkward question "ok..you have worked on JQuery and dojo, but have you worked on AJAX" !!

I could manage two interview in two days using this approach. Few others had shown interest too but my salary requirements were bit higher for those companies.

Use of recruiters has been an unnecessary strain on companies. Candidates too find the process slow and painful. Direct applications will help both parties.
I will put the new links being added into the initial post in a couple of days.

Agreed, you should not limit your job search direct applications only. Your chances of securing an interview is a bit more likely, but my experience with the two companies were that they were quite bad in knowing the type of candidate they wanted and pre-screening their candidates. I ended up with one extremely technical interview asking me about code, but I'm not a programmer and don't have this on my CV.

Secondly, the company I ended up getting a job with had my position on their intranet, internet site and through an agency. I ended up getting the job through the agency, because they were dealing with the business unit directly. I now know that had I applied directly via the internet, I possibly would not have got the job as my CV would have landed with HR and never reached the business unit, or not in time.

Rajesh - thats not true...60% of the recruitment in UK still happens through other channels...key among them is referrals.
Job consultants are a big strain to companies and do not add value.
Companies like UBS,accenture,EMC have a good careers section on their web-sites which is regularly updated and used by the recruitment team in the company.
Most smaller and mid-size companies would prefer direct recruitment - saves them good money.

Agreed...but direct recruitment is a good channel which cannot be ignored.
I realize this is a faster and much more efficient channel which works very well.

Next time you are looking for a job..try this and you will realize that you will get more interviews through other channels than recruitment agents.

By all means use recruitment agents too. But there is too much evel associated with recruitment agents - what is the guarantee that your CV will be sent forward to the recruiter after the recruiter has talked to you and told you that he will forward your CV? What is the guarantee that the recruiter is not just looking for references?

You should never put your references on your CV. Instead put "References available upon request".

That is a wasted of a line. Of course reference are available upon request. Otherwise you would not be a good candidate.

There are candidates who refuse reference checks and do not want to supply references or have no references.

So what. Either way, it is not worth space lost to put on the CV your references are available.

Agree with republique - whether you have references to give now or later or dont have any at all, it's a very childish thing to put on your CV and a waste of space. It's very easy to even get 'fake' references so really not a big concern to any firm these days......
It's in lines with CVs that have 'Main Objective' right at the top of their CV :-)

By the way I never said that one should put references on CV.
So many recruiters call you because they just want references to expand their business.
