PK wrote:Hi Guys

Just been on the phone to HO and got some important information thanks to the lovely lady in UKBA call centre..

The way it works is... after HO receives application they DATE and STAMP it .

After payment is processed they create a Payment File....

Once payment is taken they start working on the CASE FILE which includes all the criminal checks, HMRC checks etc etc..... This takes about 6 - 8 weeks from the date Payment is taken....

Once all the checks are done they create a CASE FILE

Then the CASE FILE Waits to be picked up by a case worker and once it is allocated DECISION is made......

The call centre workers only have updates on the files once the file has been created... So for example after Payment it might take a long while for any update becuse your CASE FILE will not have been created unit 6-8 weeks after payment..

Hope this helps

PK
Next time someone calls HO pls use the jargons and ask if the CASE file is creating/created or status of the case file....

We can use thier Jargon to see if the agents reply is in line with our findings :-)

my (private) ceremony is on the 12th. costs more than £80 :(

according to directgov website you need to allow six weeks for first passport application and compulsory 30 minute interview. god knows what they find to discuss for 30 minutes

six weeks is too long for me to risk it as i am flying out for an extended period on 2 sept
gc123 I see you applied through Lewisham...good people there!
How did you manage a provate ceremony, did you get it in the Lewisham council? Mine is greenwich and they don't do private ceremonies!
Yes - Lewisham Council. It took about 10 minutes to get through on the phone this morning. I think they charge almost twice as much for a Friday private ceremony (for some reason) but I have committments for the next two Thursdays (standard ceremony days) so just want it over with.

I have bled enough money on this that another 83 quid won't hurt.... and I had been worried that I might have to fly back from across the world in Sept just to do the ceremony, so 83 quid is a bargain compared to that. :D

Greenwich are mugging themselves by not offering the private service as many people are prepared to pay for it imo.

I have been informed by my council that charges are £75, to be paid on the day. (I am paying by company credit card :) so wont hurt at all)

I am travelling on 11th Sep and looking at the timelines, I expect to receive my passport, latest by 5th September.

How can I find out about my regional passport office, where interview will be held?

UKBAT website says that

last year only 2% of applications made using NCS were unsuccessful. This compares with 10% refusals for other applications

does anyone know what are the common reasons for rejecttions? UKBA is driving me mad..

I still cant think what is so different about my appliation...there were approval letters sent on 3rd and 4th Aug so that means they are not seding application once a week or something..... why some applicants are unlucky..delay at every stage?

vipul1981 true...but i think it was bit easier for you as decision was done before you can think of anything and you knew letter was posted as well...

If the letter hasnt been posted at all one week after the decision has been made...no matter how determined you are...you will think again and again...I spend most of the three months like this before the decision was made...I wasnt so desparate earlier but now this is making me mad

Rnr79, I know what u r saying mate. I have kind of waited more than anyone else after the decision. And I did actually learn not ton think. Try it, it's not that hard. U got ton think that u have PR and u have nothing to worry about. Trust me it works

I think UKBA once said that most of the refusals were because of ...
  • a. The applicants not being physically present exactly 5 years ago
    b. Unspent convictions
... in that order. So going thru NCS filters that out, resulting in less refusals.

Interviews are a part of the process now and mandatory.
It is to identify who you say you are.

Yes, for 1st passport application (even British born who never left the UK needs to attend an interview. This is to confirm your identity).

I have been looking at applying for first UK passport from overseas consulate - it appears that the process is simpler over there (doesn't seem to be any interview) although costs twice as much.
