when you say overseas consulate - how would you apply from there being in Country?

this is my third - triple nationality 8)

becomes a bit expensive keeping up passports for each

I called for an update today.

I applied through NCS on June 20, payment taken a few days later.

Apparently, I am not on their computer system yet. Inasked about the stages my application would go through, and the largesse pretty vague.

1 entered in the computer system
2 in a queue for a case worker
3 case worker reviews the case and makes a decision.

So I guess the HMRC and criminal checks are done before the case is entered onto the computer system.

Yes that means Everything is done pkalluri.. As soon as the caseworker takes your file/or allocated the decision should be made pretty soon.

Its gonna be done soon....

They do tell you that 95% of the cases are dealt within 6 months so I guess you'd have to wait at least six months before involving anyone outside ...

Guys I don't really think that they do any checks, when I called on 1st of aug advisor said the check will be done only after app is allocated to a case worker and my application was not allocated to a case worker by then.

And surprise surprise the decision was already made when I called on 4th aug in the morning so all the magic happened only in two days....

I have learnt one thing that the advisors don't have any status update until app decision is taken and that's why they give random and stupid answers

I would say they must do some checks - they would not be silly enough to give citizenship to a convicted serial killer (for example). Imagine the media backlash...

How long does it take to get the british passport back?
It depends. I got mine in 9 days, from Check & Sent to having the passport in my hand. My daughter's application took 2 weeks whilst my wife's interview is tomorrow.

I called 2 days after I applied to request my old passport back, so they decided to speed up my application. So timeline was as follows:

25/07/2011 Private citizenship ceremony
25/07/2011 Passport application Check & Send
27/07/2011 Called home office to request old passport back as I needed to travel for business on 08/08/2011
30/07/2011 Got letter asking me to book my interview
30/07/2011 Booked interview for 01/08/2011 at Crawley passport office
01/08/2011 Attended interview
01/08/2011 Received my old (foreign) passport back
03/08/2011 UK Passport delivered to my house

according to directgov website you need to allow six weeks for first passport application and compulsory 30 minute interview. god knows what they find to discuss for 30 minutes

six weeks is too long for me to risk it as i am flying out for an extended period on 2 sept
Interview doesn't take 30mins. Took 10 minutes in my case.
