I don't know about getting an NI number without a passport, I've had an NI for a few yrs now. As for working with a COA, when you apply the COA will say "you can take up employment while your application is under consideration"

With regards to why we send an extra special delivery envelope, UKBA decided that from this year they will not send your travel document by the more expensive and safer special delivery.

So if you don't mind Royal Mail possibly not delivering/losing your documents you can let them send it back by standard delivery methods but I wouldn't recommend it, personally.

Don't worry Berber, it's not your fault. What I don't like is where they don't acknowledge anything except the application because EU law forces them to.

I requested priority consideration by fax to two different numbers then called them a few weeks later to confirm the numbers actually one of theirs, they said those numbers were right but they do not confirm receiving faxes cos they "may not have arrived" I would have thought that's more of a reason to confirm the ones that they do successfully receive.

Requested my passport but they won't confirm if it's been dispatched cos it's not been 10 days even though I have next day delivery on it, so they could be stalling for time to end up telling me that in the 2 years they've had my passport they "just recently" misplaced it.

I just want to hear it from their mouths that they received my stuff, not just hearing it from royal mail that it was sent... It could be behind the UKBA sofa in the corner gathering dust.

Ok, I'm done.

well i applied for schengan visa in french consulate as wife is french and we have our marriage registered with the french embassy. no application fee or any papers were req. just just passport showing family permit and the marriage certificate(issued by french embassy). got a 5yr schengan visa within a week.

My timelines:
sent application 2nd June 2011
COA recd 14th July
waiting for RC.

Did you apply for any specific time period or how it works As I never heard before that schengen visa for 5 years.
I just applied that i am going for france for 10 days and need a visa. france generally gives a 3/6 month visa but i guess knowing my situation that applying for visa is free, they gave me 5 yr visa. less work for them :)

Thanks Oman. I enjoy everything on here.. But i'm worried about processing time. why it's takes days to relpy ? There are many ways they can contact us. Once the application was in process we should know and our mind will be calm.

And how can you work with COA? How can you get NI why passport is with HO?

Yes, my wife applied on 20 December last year and we haven't heard from them (except for the CoA). I called several times, but all they said was that the application is being considered by the European case team and it will be decided as soon as possible. Still waiting ...

I requested a new COA and they "couldn't confirm" whether one would be issued or not. It's like they're willfully being unhelpful.
Experience shows that they do not comfirm things, neither deny them. It ilitates when they keep using the same phrases over and over again ( your case or your complaint is with the relevant team ). And you keep on wondering who the relavant team is???.Even the North West customer Service Unit, you would expect to provid you with imformation, all they do is to get imformation out of you! Same questions all the time you contact them, and same answers. Relavant Team! Its a shame.
Relax! and this too shall pass, secrets are like seasons, they change.

Wow, that doesn't give me any hope... Next week my application turns 6 months old, so I'll start calling to see what they say.

Nope, not got it here either! Applied 8 days after you. Got a package waiting for me to get picked up at the post office (too big to fit in door slot), but almost certain it's not the RC. Will update when I pick it up on Monday. I'll try not to get too worried until Oct. 1 (but will likely start to get very disappointed each day I get home from work not to see anything waiting for me after Sept. 10!)

Also, in regards to your family permit expiring 30th Sept... this does not matter. You said you received your COA in July. This overrides your Family Permit and gives you right to work and travel into the UK 6 months from the date of your COA. So in your case, yours really isn't to expire until January. The only thing you should be concerned with is getting your passport in time to travel to the US Oct 1, which hopefully after hearing the good news from jam2011 you won't have to worry about!

First of all, congratulations!

Does anyone have any theories behind that 20+ day gap between the date and the arrival? Not using the prepaid envelope doesn't seem to be enough, right?

It is very likely that the date listed as "processed" is the day they print the sticker and or COA. From there, it likely goes from one desk onto another for further final preparations before being put in the mail, hence the usual 5 to 20+ day difference between date of processing and date of arrival. It can all be a bit misleading, but it is what it is!

As for UKBA not using the pre-paid envelopes some applicants include in their packets, I'm very disappointed about this. It doesn't make sense from a money stand point. They're losing money as they are spending their own money to mail out the packets and we're wasting money on a pre-paid envelope that will never get used. I find myself scratching my head about a lot of the ways UKBA handles things, but again, it is what it is. As long as my packet arrives in a "timely" matter (3-4 months) and none of the evidence and or passports have been lost along the way, I'll be grateful!

He's talking about British Citizenship after getting the Residence Card.

I'm really annoyed that there is a gap of nearly a month between date of issue and date of arrival. It's more than a joke now. I'm almost willing to bet that in order to meet quotas they back date every application by two or three weeks so it looks better for government figures.
