Romanian Application of Registration Certificate(BR1)

Post by emmy12 » Fri Dec 02, 2011 1:47 am

Hi
i am posting this for the basic information in application form(BR1) which is confusing me and asking these questions could be helpful to other Romanian or Bulgarian National applicant's too.

i am self-employed Romanian National working in uk. All this time working in uk i just knew that i needed National Insurance number if i am self-employed but now i am married in uk and my husband is Non-european member living in uk. Now if we have to apply for his Visa i have came to know that i need Registration Certificate from UKBA. While i was looking at application form i found few things which are almost impossible for me to understand they are as follows:-

1. Evidence from HMRC of National Insurance special reference number
2. Evidence from HMRC of National Insurance contributions
3. Evidence from HMRC of registration for tax
4. Evidence of tax payment under the Construction Industry Scheme
5. Details of your premises
6. Details of how you advertise your business

Problems are as follows:-

1. what is this special reference number? do i need it if i am self-employed as a cleaner? and if i need it how do i get it?

2. i have called HMRC that i want to pay my National Insurance contribution and they have sent me an application form but i want to ask if there is a fix amount for each month they will deduct??

3. What is this registration of tax? do i need it? if yes how do i apply for it?

4. Is this CIS? if it is i think i dont need this because i dont have any CIS card. Please tell me if i am right?

5. Details of what premises are required? as you can see the requirement is not quite clear?

6. i am working as a self-employed cleaner and i dont advertise my business as i am working at only a couple of places on specific days. so what should i provide as this evidence?

i am sure all these questions are relevant and answer to these would be helpfull to all new applicants. So please Please answer these important questions.

How long have you been self-employed in the UK?

I am more than slightly baffled by "Evidence from HMRC of National Insurance special reference number", and I think they are merely talking about a National Insurance number.

So you have been self-employed "more than a year", and you have not told HMRC about the existence of your business, or paid any Class 2 NI Contributions (or possibly received a NI exemption certificate if profits are low)? If that is the case, you need to register the existence of the business with HMRC without delay, and as the business started more than three months ago, do not be surprised if HMRC issue you have a £100 penalty for late notification.
