Basic questions about Diversity Visa Lottery

Post by rooni » Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:54 pm

I have some basic questions about Diversity Visa Lottery,

1. Is there any country specific quota? For example if from a country lots of people apply, there would be less chances to win, but from a country where less people apply, there would be more chances. Is it true or not?

2. I am citizen of a country which is not allowed to participate in the Diversity lottery, but my wife is from another country which is allowed to take part. So can I still apply? (I am not citizen of that country).

3. Is the lottery once an year? If I don't win, can I apply again? Is there maximum number times I can apply?

Thanks for any help.

1) I dont think there is a Quota on the number of 'winners' from any one country. Its more about region. i think Africa gets the most winners but i think they also supply the most applicants as well.

I believe though there is a cap on the number of green cards actually issued to winners from any one country

2) Yes you can apply using your spouse's country.

3) Yes it is once a way, around Oct / Nov usually over a 30 day period.
You can only enter once each year
