How to search IT contractor job while sitting in India

Post by earthangel » Mon Nov 14, 2011 9:09 am

Hi Guys

I come across many msgs on linkedin which says @We are ready to sponsor Tier2 visa but only if you can get contractor job in UK

My question is will any company be ready to interview me and offer me contractor job while I have no visa... ? (I have 7+ yrs exp in software testing)
Will they accept my proposition that once u give me job offer, I can arrange for Tier2 visa ?

How can we search for contractor job in UK while sitting in India ?

People inside the UK ready to go to interviews are struggling to find jobs, you will find it considerably harder from outside the UK. Whilst not impossible, unless you have some exceptional skill or your are a really cheap contractor, you will find it very difficult.

I was just interviewing for a QA position and we had more than 100 CV's submitted for a fixed term contract role. As an interviewer, I would simply throw out CV's from people who were either not in the UK or needed sponsorship as there are so many others to choose from.

No!!! Not correct - it is up to your own determination. I said it is difficult, not impossible. Find a niche or a way to distinguish yourself from everyone else. Find a reason why a company would want you rather than someone in the UK.

We found the right person. For me, the right person speaks English clearly, shows intelligence and maturity and does not try and impress with 100's of different tools, but rather solid QA experience with a good understanding of the entire SDLC.

Looking at QA CV's, they all look the same and I will be honest and say that it was the most boring task of my life having to read through them, but it has to be done. First you need to get the attention of the person reading your CV (I look for people with personality - someone that doesn't just have the standard set of tools and qualifications, but something that makes them quirky or interesting - one person took a 6 month career-break to study astro-physics). Not saying don't put your skills in your CV, but make it more interesting - show that you are not just a name on a CV and that you have personality. (BUT, also keep it short - I just read the first half-page of a CV and if I'm bored, I stop reading).

Tough job, but work on it. (Also something you can consider is specialising in an industry or tool or something which might be sought-after). (In my company, we just looked for a standard QA).

mulderpf is spot on. It can be done but its not easy and takes skills that are not readily available in the UK.

Good luck

Hi,

I am in UK on ICT Established staff since May 2011.

I have been offered Tier 2 General Visa by contractors4u www.contractors4u.co.uk

-----

WORKPERMIT.COM WARNING. THIS SITE LOOKS SUSPICIOUS, THEY ARE NOT KNOWN BY US TO BE REPUTABLE. IF YOU REALLY WANT TO APPROACH THEM, BE VERY VERY CAREFUL

--------
As far as I understand it is straight forward legal process. Log of Multinational do same thing, hire staff on permanent salary and bill them on daily rate to their clients.

I hope I get my Tier 2 General soon.

Thanks,
Sinha

Unlike a multinational however it does not appear that they are a licenced sponsor:

Well done getting their name and/or web address in each of the six posts you have made today.

Interesting testimonials on the site:
"I never thought it will be so simple." -- Mr Sinha, London
"Thanks for right guidance, I can now look forward to my ILR." -- Mr. Gupta, Surrey
Also interesting domain owner...(Mr A Gupta)...
