Guide- Lost/Stolen BRP or Passport

Post by dilip_gem » Mon Mar 19, 2012 5:17 pm

Hi All,
Just thought, it would be a good idea to prepare a guide to get Replacement Biometric Residence Permit in case the BRP/Passport lost/stolen abroad.

As per UKBA site:
(If you are inside the UK and your UK biometric residence permit has been lost, stolen or damaged because someone has tampered with it, please see the Permit-holders' responsibilities page.)

If you are outside the UK, you must immediately email BRPLost@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk so that we can cancel your biometric residence permit. In your email you should state:

your full name;
your date of birth;
your nationality;
your passport number;
your biometric residence permit reference number;
your case reference number;
your contact details; and
when, where and how the permit was lost, stolen or damaged.

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... -brp-visa/

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I checked for process for applying in India. and it seems the application has to be made to UKBA (at VFS offce) & VAF9 form should be used. However,the application form itself is very ambiguous. More over VFS-UK-India site doesn't have clear details on how to make the application.

Would be great, if some senior member on this forum write more details on this process. (or its worth getting heared from somebody who has already gone through such ordeal)

Please mention cases
1. Lost/Stolen Passport (Abroad and within UK)
2. Lost/Stolen BRP (Abroad and within UK)
3. Lost/Stolen Passport & BRP (Abroad and within UK)

Gem

I had lost my BRP abroad. I still had my passport.

The process to return to UK is ->
1) Call UKBA in UK telephone number from website (+44)20 8527 3623 and report loss of BRP.
2) Apply for Replacement BRP visa, option for online application is
Type of Visa - Other
Purpose of Application - Others
Type of Application - Replacement BRP
You will need Police Report of loss
3) After visa is issued you can travel to UK and apply for a new replacement BRP.

There is a character limitation on the card. :shock:

They would never be able to write in Full a name such as

'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY'

I don't think this really matters.

I guess you always have the option to contact UKBA for such issues.

I spoke to UKBA and they said that it's essential to correct this error. It should match the details present in PASSPORT as well as BRP.

What was the number you contacted for BRP Error correction? Mine has a typo in place of birth. They missed the letter A.

I have a similar problem. My Biometric Residence permit has 3 alphabets and 6 digits. This is not accepted as a correct format while filling online Tier2 application. Can anyone suggest anything?

BRP number format

Post by esel2012 » Wed Jan 16, 2013 3:20 pm

In case your BRP number has 3 alphabets and 6 digits it wont be accepted in the online form. The way around as suggested by UKBA authorities is as follows "Please select the option “Already with UKBA” and then, in your covering letter explain that the form wouldn’t allow the BRP reference to be included. The checksheet will not state to provide the BRP card, but if you could still provide this at the Post Office as this is a mandatory form of evidence."

Is this because you are reading the number wrongly. Some times people mistake the number 0 (zero) with the letter O. For example,

AB0123456 is A B zero one two three ....

not

A B O one two three ...

Not sure if it is too late, but still posting it because it might help others.
