called ukba this morning - they told me i have to wait as it has not been processed yet !! it is 6 months on tuesday :( they were pretty nice to me i mean the person who answers the phone call doesn't nessacerily deal with our immigration papers, so as frustrating as being told 'its being processed you will just have to wait is...' we can't expect the person on the other end of our call to tell us when it will be done, but i do agree the caseworkers need to be faster - i mean its 6 months next week and after my call this morning im pretty sure it wont be back.. i think its more that 5% that is longer so many people here have missed their 6 month mark and still nothing! anyways hopefully there will be some brighter news soon :)
still wishing the rest of you luck :)

There is no fix rules in timelines, some even get earlier than others, some even who applied in december got results already,so its either luck or depending on case worker or on the case itself,I think most who get have very straight forward cases.
The only way i can see to speedup this process is MP,but MP also varies some respond quickly and some take time so at the end it is luck.

I have already gone past my 6 month mark and still nothing. The only way to get more than a generic answer is if you have a personal friend that is a caseworker, in which case, there would be no need to join this forum in the first place. We'll all just have to be patient I guess.

You're right that there is no order in the way these are being processed with some people who applied later receiving their passports first. But you are not right about all these being straight forward cases. Take the cases of talal22 & AshMad who have themselves stated ( a few pages ago) that their cases were not straighforward yet they have received their passports already and before the 6 month mark (but just). Our case I know to be very straighforward yet we have passed the 6 month mark on the 19th and have received the standard reply that it is being processed. There really seems to be no rhyme or reason to the way these are processed and I believe it may be to do with the caseworker they are assigned to. Wonder if they are assigned any targets.

RQI wrote:
Perhaps our local MPs should be consulted as to what they think is the best way forward to get the UKBA's attention. They will be best to know how the system works.

If we want the right people to listen to the concerns we have, we first need to summarise a list of legitimate arguements for our case before it can be taken seriously. I'm afraid "it's taking too long" is not a good enough reason. Arguements I can think of are:

1. The UKBA charges circa £1400 to apply for an ILR for a main member and one dependant and even more for a family. The money is taken out of our account within 2 days however no feedback on the progress is given before 6 months and even after 6 months, their response to a telephone enquiry is a standard answer that it is being processed.

2. Being encouraged by the Government to work in the UK so that our skills can benefit the country and not being able to claim any public funds while paying full income tax and national insurance for between 4 and 5 years, which is the condition of our visas, then receiving this kind of service from the UKBA is unfair to say the least.

3. By arriving at the stage where we can apply for ILR, some of us had to apply for an initial visa for 2 or 3 years, then an extension. If our skills were that important, why not issue a 5 year visa straight away? Instead, the two stage process means we have to pay more fees resulting in some paying almost £10,000 including the ILR fees and using solicitors/agents. It seems unreasonable to have this kind of service from the UKBA when after all that we've contributed to the public funds, the one thing we ask for in return is a quick turn around time in our application. Are we going to go on the dole as soon as the application has been approved? No, we will continue to make a contribution to the UK economy.

4. Many applicants' lives are on hold such as mortgage applications (where further money is paid to the interest charged by the banks), critical and necessary travel plans, job promotions, sourcing new jobs, starting a new business and developing skills through further education.

5. Everything we do to meet the government's requirements have been done. One of which is the knowledge of life in the UK test. While it is a good idea to implement such a test to integrate into British culture, there is a fee of £50 per test in addition to having to but the text book for £10 making the total cost £60 per person. If the government is encouraging migrants to integrate, shouldn't this be provided at a reduced cost if not free after years of supporting the economy and receiving nothing in return other than NHS? Not even the text book is provided without cost.

6. Although it is understood that it is a priviledge to be accepted as UK citizens in the long run, which is why many choose to live here, we are simply asking for a faster turn around time in our ILR applications, nothing more. Considering the points highlighted above, is this too much to ask for after having contributed so much in the process?

The above is all I can think of at this stage. If anyone else wishes to add to that, please do and I think there can then be a comprehensive list of reasons why the higher level of people in government should look at the issue of the UKBA's processing times more seriously. There are some influencial MP's other than our local MPs who are supportive of skilled migrants playing a key role in the UK economy and I believe it is those MPs who should be contacted or emailed with our list of concerns.

Any more suggestions are welcome.
I agree with all you've said above RQI and you've put forward the issues well. I think we should also mention that if we were willing or able to shell out an extra £600+ we would have received same day service which just goes to show that the time taken is not just the time required for due diligence & checks, but purely inefficiency in a large number of cases. A few cases may take longer and this is acceptable. I think we should use the freedom of information website to request current statistics on ILR processing to make our case stronger.

The Wait is over,

Finally received all family passports with shiny visa sticker inside, here is my timeline,

App posted: 10/10/2011
Ack letter: 12/10/2011
VISA stamped: 22/03/2012
Passport received: 19/04/2012

so in total it has taken 6 months & 2 weeks to get ILR SET (O) (5 year work permit route) for a family of 3 with 1 child.

Passport was stamped alomst 1 month ago @ Liverpool office, cant understand why they waited 4 weeks to post it?

I had sent a return envelope which was used to post the documents back.

All the best & god bless all those waiting, be patient (not easy to do), but we will all get there. :D

I am happy to share happy news that I have got ILR

Stamped on 16th Apr 2012
and received it today 21-apr-2012. from Liverpool

My application was under SET(o)JR most straightforward , no absences, minimum documents to see (income proof) and very simple.

last week I have sent simple email to them to expedite my application in just 4 sentences. It wasnt travel emergency. But they were gracious to acknowledge and process my application.

May Allah give all peace soon those who r waiting.

Wait is over

Post by lakshtar » Sat Apr 21, 2012 9:49 am

Hi All

Our wait is over today and we received our passports back this morning, details below:

Form: Set(O) (Work permit + Tier 1)- Straight forward as with the same employer through out
Application sent: 14 October 2011
Acknowledgement letter: 18 October 2011
ILR stamped: 23 March 2012
Passport received: 21 April 2012

Shameless process of UKBA continues with lag of posting the decision after stamping. I called UKBA yesterday and was told that the decision has been posted through 2nd class on 18 April 2012 (exactly 6 months from date of its ackowledgement) and provided the post office tracker number.

The above timings rubbishes all my efforts since end of March to expedite my application.

I also noted one trend on the forum for past couple of weeks. Most posts are received in the later part of the week as against the first half of the week!! Does this demonstrates some trend of when UKBA processes its posts!

Good luck to those who are patiently waiting to listen!

lakshtar wrote:Hi All

Hi,

I have got my passport with ILR today! Praise God!

My timeline:

Application posted: 31.10.11
Ack. Letter: 02.11.11
Money taken: 02.11.11
Visa stamped: 19.03.12
Passport received: 21.04.12

Total waiting time – almost 25 weeks (1 day less) or almost 6 months (10 days less). As you can imagine I was counting every single day of my waiting.

It was SET (O) application, for myself and my two children.

My application was absolutely straightforward, I was out of country for less than 60 days in all my 5 years of staying here. All necessary documents were included with my application. I continuously worked for the same organisation that invited me here and I am still employed by them. My address was and is the same from my first day in UK. Maintenance, language and Life in UK test requirements were fulfilled, no criminal or driving offence on my record.

I did not enclose any envelope for return and my documents were sent to me by 2nd Class Signed For Delivery, it was sent from Liverpool.

I am very thankful for this forum and all feedback and waiting time updates, it was absolutely helpful!

I wish you all to get your ILR very soon!

ILR SET (O) Tier 1 (HSMP)

Post by dsbos » Sun Apr 22, 2012 4:01 pm

I'm deeply frustrated that I had to post my application.

Glasgow PEO said they cannot assess my application as I'm with a Self Employed / Limited Company situation. They wasted my day and I lost a day's wage. Imagine IT Contractor's daily rate.

Also they couldn't confirm me if any other PEO could assess my application, it was just their word and I repeatedly ask if they can confirm, so I will go anywhere and get it done in a day. Simplay I'm no fan of this waiting game...

Yet again I badly want to buy a house after all this waiting game for almost 9 years.

I couldn't get any appointment online or over the phone before my current leave runs out, so I had to post my application. It's all UKBA's fault. If they had mentioned that Glasgow PEO is unable to assess Self Employed people, I would have go elsewhere it is possible.

Now I am dare to buy the house I fell in love with and my current status and not having a passport handy has put me helpless.
Banks offer better rates if you have ILR, if not your monthly repayment could be as more as £750. I can buy another Bimmer for my wife with that money...

My application was delivered to UKBA exactly a week ago, but still neither the money taken from my card nor acknowledgement letter :(

To make things even delayed now you have to give the Biometrics...

Can anyone please help here... probably who's in the same situation like me...

What could be the earliest I would get my passports back?

How long that would be from the date of your Biometrics taken?

Thanks in advance.
