Since the jobs ads only give gross annual salary, I thought this list of UK Net salaries (after tax) might be helpful for everyone:

Net salary calculator for 2013 - 2014 . This is updated version of after tax wage and salary calculator for the UK.

Do you think it would be helpful if we show the NI contribution amount from the salary. A percentage guide would be helpful.

This breaks down your contributions, including NI.

Good! Its often hard to explain to people who look stary eyed at the "big UK" salaries that Her Majesties Government so happily takes a big cut! Many Asian countries have no or little taxes (and tax evasion is easy).

What is also needed is cost of living guides. I am fed up of explaining to relatives why its hard to save money in UK! I think cost of living + tax deductions soon make those "fantasticly high UK salaries" look more like chicken feed

It is true that atleast in India, there are many ways you can avoid tax to a significant extent. For example, House loan or premiun bonds etc.,

But such stuff is not possible in UK :-) , I payed tax both in India and UK, so you can put some weight on what I just said .

Hi All,

Can someone please confirm that the rate of Income Tax is as per the corresponding, applicable slab or not?

e.g. somebody earniong 60000 GBP/Annum, pays tax @10% for earnings from 0-2150 + @22% for earnings from 2151-33300 + @40% from 33301-60000 GBP?
(215+6853+10680) i.e. a total tax of 17748. Is this correct structurally?

pls. help me understand the tax structure.

per your example...

Annual salary is 60,000/yr

deduct personal exception say 5035gbp

Gross taxable is 54695 gbp

You pay 10% on first 2150gbp
you pay 22% from 2151 to 33300 and
you pay 40% from 33301 up to 54695.

Hope this helps...you need to deduct your tax exemptions first considering that you don't have any other exemptions being claimed...

I earned £10,551 in the last eight months can someone tell me how many points I can claim for an HSMP extension after one year.

Well, £10,551 is after NI and Income tax deductions.

Never been good with nuimbers. Any help?

if the 10551 is after NI and tax deductions then you have earned a higher gross income...you can check it from your payslips and get the amount before all the deductions are made...take the sum of all those numbers and refer it to the guidelines. :)

That means you have to add the gross salary for all the 12 months you are claiming before any possible deductions.

Total 13 PaySlips... will it be a problem?

Post by tayyabafzal » Sat Aug 16, 2008 7:08 am

Hi All,

Currently I am working on my case and I need to claim 15 points for my salary to make the total 75. Means I have to show that my total salary was => 20,000.

I worked exactly 12 months and by the end of 13th month I got my holiday/overtime pay which I have earned over this period of 12 months.

My gross pay was 1647GBP/Month which makes it 1647*12= 19,760 GBP.

Including my holiday/overtime pay which I received one month after leaving job was 800 GBP

So total 19,760 + 800 =20,560 GBP

Will you think HO will consider my last 800 GBPs as my 13th month salary?.... in fact I just worked for 12 months n the 13th month salary was just adjustments and holiday pay?.

I have total 13 pay slips which gross total makes 20,560 GBPs. (means 15 points)

Thanks

my uk payslip shows the following figures...

1.taxable pay
2.non taxable pay
3.total payments (1+2)
4.total deductions
5.net pay (3-4)

should i add all taxable pays (i.e 1) or total payments (i.e 3) to calculate my earnings?

and net pay (5) is shown in bak statements..hope this wouldnt be a problem too?

plz advise....

As regards "2.non taxable pay", what sort of things does that consist of? Is it, for example, expense payments? Or what is it?[/quote]
