Border Check within Schengan states?

Hi All,

Just want to confirm if there are any border checks within the Schengan countries . Can someone fly within the schengan on easy jet with only presenting Residence card from a member state instead of the passport? Would they be going through Immigration if traveling on an easy jet flight between Spain and Sweden?

There should be no immigration checks within the Schengen area (except for special events). But having ID is compulsory in some member states (I do not know about Spain and Sweden). Also, airlines most likely will insist on some form of ID which a UK RC is probably not.

Irrespective of having border checks, the general requirement to hold passport or ID card in the case of EU citizens applies.

Does the airline ask for a Passport for a non EU national or traveling on a Residence permit under the directive is accepted? Of course it is a non UK RP which is not endorsed on the passport.

Your RP may be a proper ID without the passport in the country of issue but not in the country to be visited. When EU citizens are required to carry passport/ID when crossing internal borders (that's the minimum requirement in the Directive) their family members are too. Anyway, since you plan to fly with easy jet you should get that info from their web page (I seem to recall that they have that information).

Easyjet has quite a bunch of >>info about passports<< on their website.

In their >>regulations<< you find the following:

Article 13 Documentation and Other Requirements
(...)
13.1.3 All International Flights

The documentary requirements for passengers on international Flights (including within the EU) are a valid passport or in some circumstances, a national identity card will be accepted provided it is supported by any other relevant documentation such as visas, where applicable.

An expired passport is not a valid form of identification on any international Flight.

The requirement to carry a passport/ID is thus part of your contract with Easyjet, irrespective of national requirements to carry a passport/ID on you.

When flying within any Schengen-states, your passport/ID will not be checked by state-officials (such as border guards), but by Easyjet or airport check-in staff.

However, check-in folks check for totally different reasons than border-guards...
