Oh ok. I however have to eat my own words!!!.

Sent my application by Post to London on 03-Sep. The online status shows as acknowledged on 20-sep. But until today it shows as 'UnderProcess'.. May be the London Postal applications team is trying to match the SLA s of their Brum counterparts!!
hi valluvan,

Is there any update on your application status.
I have applied in person in birmingham on 21st of sept, still showing 'UnderProcess'.

Thanks
For people who have surrendered their Indian passports recently and who have family back in India and want to go back its best to apply at london where the process takes around 4 -5 weeks. The waiting time at other places is just to stressfull.

Overseas Citizen of India application form

Post by Ani14 » Sun Oct 28, 2012 9:14 pm

Hi,

I am applying for OCI for my wife and daughter, I am not applying with them.

Now the question is when we fill the OCI form online what category do i select "Individual" or "family group". Can I select "Individual" option and fill out 2 separate forms for my wife and daughter?

The reason why I dont want to select "family group"category is becuase they are expecting spouse information to be filled in the same form with "family group" category and I am not going for OCI right now.

Any help will be highly usefule.

Thanks,
Ani

I would say you select individual and if applying by post, there wont be any issues.. but if you apply at HCI, your wife will have to go directly..

I've seen a few cases they rejected over the counter saying the person need to come directly.. :( for family apps, they dont insist everyone to come.. I applied as family group and I only submitted the app at HCI london office..

Hi guys

One question, I see in everyone's timeline there's an item called "Photo/Signature at Mission".

I applied for OCI in person at London and when I check it at

http://passport.gov.in/oci/OnlineOCIenquiry.jsp

I dont see this kind of field. Am I using the correct link?

Hi,

I just have a question regarding OCI. If the father has already got his OCI based on his old Indian passport and now when his UK born childrens and grand childrens apply for OCI, along with full birth certificate, do they have to again attach photocopies and send original father's old Indian passport, surrender certificate with their application or just attaching photocopies of OCI sticker from father British passport and OCI booklet is sufficient without sending these originals.

Thanks

A question regarding OCI application, is the SC enough to establish Indian origin or do I need to submit photocopy of the cancelled Indian passport? Here is my list of douments with my postal application:

1. Application Form (with 1 photo)
2. Copy of photo page of British passport
3. Copy of naturalization certificate
4. Copy of Surrender certificate
5. Postal order for £175

PG1983 -

You will need 2 photos and you will need to send originals. Send SAE with them so they will post originals backs asap.

SC Should be enough, however I would send the copies of each used page of the indian passport as well.

My advice would be to go down in person if you can , will save at least 2-3 weeks in processing time rather than by post.

I posted my passports off on Saturday which arrived there on Tuesday 30/10/2012. I know someone who works there who said on Tuesday they will still working through Fridays post. So looks like 3/4 days after receipt do they action.

You got it all. That's all that they ask for. No originals but all photocopies need to be self attested.

There is no need to send originals for OCI application. Please see extract from HCI website below.

Documents required to be submitted at the time of making application either at the OCI Counter, High Commission of India, London or BY Post:

(i) Application Form: OCI being an Internet-based process. All applicants have to apply by online registration through Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India website http://mha.nic.in/uniquepage.asp?Id_Pk=553.
Important steps:

Once you fill up Part-A online, Save, and give Print command. Part-A with online registration number (GBRLI....., not GBRLone) will be printed along with Part-B blank form.

Part-B can be written by hand in BLOCK LETTERS or printed.

For each family application Part-B is common to all applicants of the family up to a maximum of four. Separate applications are required for any other additional members.
In case the space provided is not sufficient, additional sheets may be used for providing requisite details.

(ii) Photograph

One photograph (51x51mm with 80% coverage of face) should be pasted on the application form. Photograph should be of light colour background (not white) with front pose, both shoulders and both ears visible.

(iii) Photocopies of the first page, photo page, all observation pages of valid British/Foreign Passport and ID card are also required.

(iv) Copy of Naturalization / Registration Certificate

(v) Indian Origin Proof

(a) For a person born in India

Surrender Certificate

OCI applicants should surrender their Indian Passports in one of the VFS centres (http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/surenderind_pass.html) and submit copy of Surrender Certificate along with the OCI application.

Applicants who have ever held an Indian Passport but are unable to produce the same for surrender for any reason (loss/misplacement/submitted to UK Home Office long time back) are required to furnish a notarised affidavit in original (if Passport is already expired) and also a Police Report (in cases where Indian Passport was still valid).

PG1983 -

FROM HCI WEBSITE:

NOTE: All original documents should be kept ready for verification on demand, at the time of submission of OCI application.

We originally sent application by post will all photocopies and it was rejected and came back saying we needed originals.

We then just went down in person with originals which they also checked across the counter.

I think it all depends on who is assessing your application.
