Ancestry dependent visa

Post by mtuckersa » Sun Dec 09, 2012 9:34 pm

I have looked on the forum for info on this and have not found anything.

What are the forms and requirements for an Ancestry Dependent Visa. Is it the FLR(M) form?

Is the dependent applying with you for an extension and in the UK or from home country as a new visa??

It is form FLR(BID) to extend. You cannot apply for a new first time Ancestry visa from inside the UK.

Then if you are applying from your home country, it is form VAF2.
Thanks

It would help if you keep your posts to one topic then you will get the best help. There isn't too much info on here about Ancestry and I got mine from SA without any problems, so shout if you need anymore help.

not to be funny but anyone who applies for a visa without looking into extensions 5 years down the line is a bit short-sighthed and could land you up back in your home country.

Thanks for the info

Why would you apply for an extension when you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain after 5 years on initial visa. Previously extensions were required when Ancestry visas were only issued for 4 years, so people HAD to extend to make up 5 years residency requirement for ILR. This was changed and the visa will be issued for 5 years, then ILR can be applied for and then after 12 months on ILR you can apply for citizenship.

Another point to bear in mind is that the rules change all the time, Ancestry is one that hasn't really been touched as yet, but could in the future. You should focus on getting the initial visa first, with the docs and maintenance funds required, then once you are here and well into your residency requirement, think about extension or ILR.
