SET(O) September Applicant

Post by sathishc » Tue Jan 29, 2013 8:04 pm

Hi, I am Tier 1 SET(O) applicant (self and 1 dependent):
Acknowledgement for Application from UKBA : 24-Sep-2012.
Biometrics letter received and done same day: 29-Nov-2012.
Waiting for approval letter.

Looking at the posts in the last 2 months, SET(M) applications are being processed in a timeline of 2 months for Biometric and 2 months for approval; SET(O) applications are being processed in a timeline of 2 months for Biometric and 3-4 months for approval. Is this the normal processing timeline are we observing? Are there August or September applicants with similar profile (Tier-1 SET(O)) have got their application processed within 2 months after Biometric? I need to plan several things - all hinged on the date I can expect the approval. If I know for sure SET(O) alone is getting delayed consistently beyond 2 months after biometrics, I can plan accordingly. Please let me know. Thanks.

Re: ILR Granted - postal SET(O) Ancestral
Hi everyone,

Finally got my ILR after 7 months:

Sent: 26th June 2012 (ILR SET (O) : from Tier 1 and HSMP)
Acceptance dated: 25th Jan 2013 (7 months)

I had several urgent travel requirements during this period for business purposes yet requests from myself, my employer and solicitor went unanswered. I wrote to my MP and he basically said there was nothing he could do. After the Chief Inspector's report on the UKBA on the 24th (and after hearing him on BBC Today) I wrote a fairly lengthy letter to Mark Harper MP (the Minister of Immigration) with my thoughts on how holding the travel documents of skilled migrants for such a long time hurts the UKs international competitiveness. Oddly enough, my visa was approved the next day - most likely a coincidence tho.

Good work everyone on posting your timelines and stories; and best of luck with your applications.
The government claims it wants global investment and wants to make UK open for business.

Yet, the UKBA doesn't seem to understand the basic concept that many business people TRAVEL for a living; taking 4-6 months to process applications, prevent business people from travelling, all while charging exhorbitant fees is NOT being open to business.

My first thoughts when Canadian Mark Carney became Head of Bank of England was "If he wants ILR, will his passport be confiscated for 6 months preventing him from attending global meetings while his application sits in a pile at the UKBA."

anki2003 (and others) - do not be confused with biometrics! Biometrics is photograph, fingerprints and signature. lam85 provided those on November 9th 2012. I think what you are enquiring about is whether lam85 has received his/her Residence Permit. The terminology in this whole process can be very confusing!

lhrpk - Firstly, many congratulations!

Couldn't agree more about their understanding. As some here will know, my wife is still waiting having applied for SET(M) in September. The UKBA have not only had her passport, but also mine (I am a UK citizen) ever since and it means, of course, neither of us can travel outside of the UK without them!. On her insistence, I actually wrote to my MP 2 weeks ago, pointing this out and also pointing out the inconsistency between the length of time it takes for postal applications to be decided Vs that of personal applications. We received a very nice letter from the MP stating that she would take up this discrepancy with Mark Harper and would let us know the outcome. The day before we received the reply, my wife got a letter from UKBA requesting us to provide further proof that we were still married and still living together between November 2010 and July 2011! This seems to be a very specific timeframe, and these dates were already included in the 6 documents she provided with her application! However, fortunately we managed to find a few more documents covering that timeframe and also included her NHS Medical Card and the paper parts of both of our driving licences as well (although none of these actually help in terms of the date range). Now the waiting begins again!

Captainfantastic yes I am sking for whether lam85 has received the biometric or not. bcoz letter state that is should be deliver in 7 working days and I have no information about that till now. I dont know what should I do. Do you have any no. where I can inquire about the same. Its frustrating now.

Now you are confusing me! As I said, if you have applied by post, Biometrics starts with a letter from the UKBA requesting you to attend a Post Office to supply your fingerprints, provide a sample signature and have a photograph taken. This is all done digitally and linked to a barcode with your reference on it. This is then stored electronically and the UKBA should have immediate access to it. there is no 7 day delivery involved. What I (still) think you are referring to is the actual Residence Permit that (I think) the UKBA say will be provided 7-10 working days after you receive your Approval Letter. The Residence Permit has the biometric details stored on it, but it is a misnomer to refer to that card as "biometrics"!

If it is indeed the residence permit (rather than an invitation to provide your biometric details) that you are enquiring about, then you should be able to telephone the UKBA and, if they have sent it via a courier service (DX I believe) then they should be able to give you a tracking number. I think if you search through earlier posts, you will find others have posted the telephone number to use to contact them.

I hope this helps?

Sorry, anki2003 I've just checked back and see that it IS the Residence Permit you are referring to. You received your Approval Letter on 23 January which was last Thursday. Seven working days from then will be next Monday, February 4th. If you haven't received anything by then, that is when you should contact the UKBA.

It's quite erratic.

I received mine with my bio card, approval letter and all my documents in one pack, where some people have received everything separately up to 10 days later...

Well, I spoke to the adviser and expressed my fury because of the fact that some September applicants had started getting their approvals. The response was: backlog.
However, my adviser told me that they were going to send a letter on 31st of Jan (i.e. today) to UKBA for clarification. Fingers cross.

I agree with most of the people, the standard of service UKBA provides is poor and their management needs some very good kicking and I mean veeeeeeeeeery good kicking.
I can not imagine any private company providing similar standard service for such fee.

Yes I believe any other gov department dealing with British citizens would not operate in the same way for that matter. They wield great power over us and we cannot do anything about it, problem is they know it

ILR complaints

Post by ILtoWait » Thu Jan 31, 2013 5:12 pm

But why is that we can't do anything about it? Surely they must be accountable at some level, at some point.

I've tried endlessly though a lawyer, my MP and their official complaints email to get some resolution to the poor service - but to date not a single response to any avenue.

The political ombusdman is my next (and final) port of call as far as I can tell.

I remember one MP last year who had been approached by a constituent about an application that had been giving them problems. The MP accepted to deal with the requests to follow up but later in a UKBA select committee she wasn't on the applicant's side who would have felt betrayed if they heard the MP's comment on how the UKBA was dealing ever so slowly with removing people like the constituent. I think we are alone in this and likely to forget about the terrible experience once its all over. Not good
