OCI/PIO/Indian visa for folks in Northern Ireland

Post by rajumr » Mon Apr 05, 2010 9:18 am

Hello Folks,
If you live in Northern Ireland, you can apply at Indian Embassy, Dublin as well. I came to know of this fact very recently and have used this embassy for my OCI and my son's PIO. The processing times are quicker compare to those of embassies in UK.

The other major advantage is that you don't need to surrender certificate to apply at this embassy. It takes literally 2 seconds to get your Indian passport canceled (no cost).

cheers

This sounds great.
So I don't need a surrender certificate while applying OCI in Dublin.
Can we do postal application from London?

Hello gainvidya,
This provision is Northern Ireland residents only. With every application (be it for Indian visa or PIO or OCI), you need to provide proof of residency in Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland residents can send the application by post as well.

Post by rajumr » Fri Jun 04, 2010 3:58 pm

Folks,
I have been informed that Embassy in Dublin too are proposing to introduce surrender fee sometime this year.

Lucky few (like me) who escaped the surrender fee :)

cheers

Embassy in Dublin has started charging for Surrender.

I am however going to send them the passport to cancel under Section 9 of the Citizenship Act 1955 under which no renunciation is required hence no fee should be applicable.
