First travel after son’s british nationality

Hello members we are travelling first time since my son got his British nationality (Also has a british passport). He is also Pakistani national as well. My question is what passport I need to use for check-in and immigration. I would like to keep things simple and just use Pakistani passports for all of us everywhere. Will it cause any issues?

So to summarise

• Use my son’s Pakistani passport and ILR BRP for check-in with the airline.
• Use my son’s Pakistani passport to enter Pakistan.
• Use my son's Pakistani passport in transit in UAE. (They always check passports/visa when boarding flight back to UK)
• Use my son’s Pakistani passport and BRP at UKBA counter at the airport on the way back to UK.

Can anyone see any issues? Many thank in advance.

Have your son got British Passport or just holding ILR at the moment?

He has british passport. Sorry i should have added that to my initial post.

Has your son not got a NICOP?

The reason I am asking is because once you have obtained British passport it is normally advisable to use British Passport to enter UK rather then using the ILR BRP card.

It won't be as such a problem but they always advise not to use your ILR status if you have got British Passport.

You can use British passport for your son if you got NICOP card.
We recently visited Pakistan (Islamabad), myself and wife got Pakistani passports with ILR and kids got British passports (kids dont have ILR). No questions asked at all at Islamabad or UK airport by immigration. We had kids birth certificates and registration certificates of British citizenship for two kids. but we don't have to show these to anyone.
Furthermore flights were booked using kids British passports.

If this is the case then can I use Pakistani passport for check-in with the airline and also present Pakistani passport on the immigration counter in Pakistan (both entry and exit)?

I will then use british passport to enter UK.

No Imran, please ready my post carefully. I mentioned the word "advisable" and not "illegal".

It is absolutely fine to use both passport for travel. It would be a lot easy to have NICOP since you don't need to carry both passport as well as avoiding the long immigration queue on the way back to UK.

How can i skip the immigration queue as me and my wife will still have to go throught the normal queue as we don't have british citizenship hence my son has to come along as well.

I don't have much experience with this but I think you can may be able to use the British queue using your baby passport.

You can always try it and see what happens, worst case scenario they will direct you to the other nationality queue..

Does it matter which passport you use for check-in purpose with the airline? Can I check-in using the Pakistani passport on both my outward and inward journey?

I guess I can produce a british passport at the immigration desk in UK even if i have used Pakistani passport to check-in?

At airline check-in I'd use the passport that the passenger is going to use to enter Pakistan. You can then show the British passport if there is a UK exit passport check (there isn't usually), and the Pakistani passport at the door of the plane, where the airline usually checks again. You use the Pakistani passport to enter Pakistan.

On the return trip, use the British passport to check in. Use the Pakistani passport to go through passport control. (I am assuming that there is a formal exit passport control on leaving Pakistan.) Use the British passort at the door of the plane and again on arrival in the UK.

Remember, there is nothing wrong with having two passports as long as both are legally held. If there is any difficulty you can always produce the other passport, but I wouldn't do that unless you need to, since it can create unnecessary confusion.
