Effect of Rent on financial requirements?

Post by naija99 » Sat Apr 20, 2013 2:03 pm

Can someone help?

£27,200 is required to sponsor a wife and 3 kids. If the sponsor is earning £30,000 but is planning on renting a 2 bed flat for £1200 pcm for when they arrive, will ECO think he doesnt have enough money to accommodate them.
Taking into account he will need £1200 x 12 months=£14,400.

Only the relevant income threshold is considered. Expenditure of that income is not considered.

double check this question with an immigration lawyer, I hear UKBA deduct rent and council tax from your NET income (income AFTER tax) and calculate to see if you are left with an amount that is MORE than the current income support rate (which is around £460 per month) for couples. If you are not left with more than the current income support rate for couples then you may be refused.

Ozzy - that USED to be how it was calculated - no longer (well - in certain circumstances it is - but not generally).

Luca's advice is correct.

As long as you meet the threshold you would be fine. AFIK ,if you are required to fill up the financial requirement part on the application form then you do not need to write your rent and other expenses any way.
some people may have very luxurious life hence need a lot of money whereas some people can manage with very little income. It entirely depends on personal circumstances.
Information or Advice provided by me is general in nature and based on my own limited expertise hence shouldn't be used as a substitute for professional advice where necessary.

Luca's advice is correct.
What circumstances is it used in then?

When, for example, the person is exempt from the standard financial requirements - e.g. they are in receipt of DLA.
