The missus had her interview for National Insurance Number today and here is an update

The interviewer was under the impression that the 6 month stamp is a visitors and does not automaticaly confer the right to work niether untill i insisted did she put in the notes that we were using the Singh/Eind rules wouldnt have copied my wifes european residence card either had i not insisted.

Said 2 to 3 weeks is the average dont ring till after 6 weeks so no work untill and without the further info i insisted be added i could see this dragging on.

If this is not the place mods please excuse.

No lawful impediment to working without a National Insurance number, especially since one has been applied for.

That's my understanding too - when I first arrived many years ago on a Work Holiday Visa, I began work without an NI Number. In fact, I had to take time off work to go to the NI Office for my appointment! I think worst case scenario is you might be put on an emergency tax code (though I'm not 100% sure of this).

I'm actually referring to the code which stipulates the tax free allowance.

If you're entitled to a National Insurance number but don't have one, you can apply. You'll need one in certain circumstances, such as claiming state benefits, applying for a student loan or when working. You can start work without one but you'll need to apply straightaway. If you live in the UK you'll normally receive one automatically at age 16.

they used to do i before now they dont put on an emergency tax code it was called temporary NI.

Now they dont even give the card, they simply send a paper stating the NI number.
One God we believe in.

May he bless UKBA with thought to think before refusing any application.
