Referee - Known for three years vs more then three years

Hi,

The first referee (professional) has mentioned on the form that they know candidate for "three years". Now on the form its saying they should know for "more then three years". The second referee hasn't mentioned any dates.
Does anyone knows these technicalities (three vs more then three) could cause any issues?

It doesn't matter. It has to be for at least 3 years but can obviously be longer.

What is the difference between 3 years and more than 3 years? Lets examine by some examples.

3 years + 1 day is more than 3 years
3 years + 29 days is more than 3 years
3 years + 2 months is more than 3 years
3 years + 1 years is more than 3 years
3 years + 20 years is more than 3 years
3 years + 1 million light years is more than 3 years

If you know the exact date since that person has known you, then you can add 3 years to that date, and one day after that he can give you a reference. Any date after doing the above calculation is included in "more than" 3 years. (Please note its "more" not "less"). So every since day, every hour, every minute, every second that passed after the 3 years period is included in "more" than 3 years

Not quite sure as light year measures distance!!

they measure how much distance would be covered if something travelled x amount of years multiplied by x amount of speed.

yes, as a unit they measure distance, but still do relate to time.

Let us try to understand from another example.

Suppose I have £ 3 pounds in my pocket, and then I put another penny in my pocket. So, now, the amount in my pocket is

a. Less than £ 3
b. Same as £ 3
c. More than £ 3

I don't know why UKBA uses such jargon as "more than 3 years" in the guidance. I mean more than 3 years could mean anything really.

I someone meets a referee exactly 3 years ago and the time was 2 pm when they met, then if this referee signs the form exactly on the third anniversary of their meeting at 1 pm, is it that UKBA will refuse the applications for deception, because there was still one hour to go?
