Self Assessment Recalculation/Late Tax Filing

Post by expatinuk » Sun Jun 09, 2013 11:27 am

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been asked before!! I work as a contractor through my own limited company and when filing my self-assessment form for the previous tax year, I inadvertantly left out my PAYE income (I was transitioning from permanent employment to self employment and hence the mistake). I am now filing a revised self-assessment form after realizing my mistake, but due to the delay I now have to pay a fine of about 300 pounds. Does this come under Good Character requirement? Will this affect my naturalization application for British citizenship?

Thanks for the link. I guess the relevant question is Q22 on non-payment of taxes and tax evasion. Would I be right in assuming that if I pay the back taxes, this would not amount to tax evasion and would hence not be declared in the application? Is there a Good Character requirement on timely payment of taxes? I am sorry if these are too many questions, but I don't want to make any obvious mistakes.

Indeed, paying arrears in not an evasion. You should be fine.
