well, in such short notice applying in person at London is probably the safest bet. Try Goswell Road VFS. On receipt of the surrender certificate you have to apply for visa which will take couple of extra days.
AFAIK place of residence should not be any problem for passport surrender and you can travel from Wales and submit at London.
If you submit at Cardiff it may not be available within 2 weeks. Check this thread and you'll find timelines for non London / postal applications.

I will be planning to go early morning. Thanks.
Also, will it okay to do the same for my wife on her behalf?

Sorry for bombarding the forum with so many questions.

1. When you post, what all documents did you send? (original indian passport?)
2. How did you receive the surrendered certificate? via post or did u need to go and collect from VFS?

Passport Surrender: In Person London

Post by sojan » Wed Aug 21, 2013 4:45 pm

Application Date : 08/08/2013 (In Person )
Surrender Certificate Issue Date: 13/08/2013
Receipt of Surrendered certificate: 16/08/2013 (By Prepaid Special Delivery Envelope)

Went around 8:15ish and there was a queue in front of VFS (around 30 people in front). I got token number 6 for passport surrender. Was all over in an hour.

If you arrange the documents, its very straight forward. I have also bought special delivery DX from VFS itself.

Surrendering passport

Post by nehalbhagat » Mon Sep 02, 2013 7:24 am

Hi,
I am planning to go personally to surrender my passport. Please can someone kindly advise..

1. Do VFS take card payment at Hayes VFS?
2. Do you have to provide a prepaid envelope for returning your documents ?
3. Will you get your Indian passport back or not ?
4. Do you need to carry both British and old expired Indian passport with you for this process ?

Kindly advise

Yes, Card payments are accepted
2. Do you have to provide a prepaid envelope for returning your documents ?
I would suggest you buy a pre-paid special delivery envelope to return your documents. You have an option to pay for DXsecure at VFS as well
3. Will you get your Indian passport back or not ?
Yes cancelled with cuts at the edges
4. Do you need to carry both British and old expired Indian passport with you for this process ?
No. Only valid Indian passport is required

Kindly advise

If the original Indian passport is cancelled and someone has already got an OCI card, do we have to surrender the cancelled passport?
The reason I ask is because my son's British passport is due for renewal and I understand the OCI has to be renewed as well for the new British passport, at which point they may ask for the surrender certificate
Any official guidance link would be very useful

how can you surrender a cancelled Passport which has been cancelled only after being surrendered in the first place. The surrender certificate is the proof that you have surrendered your indian passport.

It has been stamped as 'Cancelled' all over it and the top right edge has been cut off

Those days there was nothing called surrender certificate I suppose. We just sent the Indian passport to the high commission saying we have now obtained british citizenship and they cancelled it and sent it back to us
