Inviting my mother in law for my wife's pregnancy.

Hello guys,

I need your help!!! I am inviting my mother in law to come to the UK for the special occasion of the child birth. I need to know documents I need to submit.


My sister in law who is in egypt is supporting her mother so she is submitting her 6 months bank statement. My mother in law has savings so she will show statements of her Savings Account.

I am thinking of sending my bank statement her from UK or the last 3 months or so and a letter from my letting agent saying there is a spare room in my house as she will be staying with us. I am also thinking of writing a letter saying me and my wife are inviting the mother for the special occasion. Would that be enough???

Do you think my sister in law should also write a letter saying she is supporting her mother ?? And should I send my statements or not as it may confuse them as to who is supporting !!

Your help an advice in this matter will be much appreciate.

- Copies of our passports and the pages with UK Visa
- Council Tax documents and Utility Bills
- Bank statements and Pay slips (3-4 months)
- Copy of my wife's Birth Certificate
- Copy of MAT B1 form given by my GP
- Copies of results obtained from my 12 week and 20 week ultrasound scans
- Copy of cover of Pregnancy notes filled in by the midwife
- Copy of NHS prescription exemption card, and letter received along with it
- Letters from our respective employers confirming employment
- Letter of no objection from our Landlord
- Copy of Tenancy Agreement

Hi. Many thanks for your help. Can I just ask If you attested the hospital letters and copies of passport etc or just sent normal copies without attestation?

also do ensure that your mother in law provides evidence in support of her ties with her home country.
as a sponsor you can provide an invitation letter and extend all support during her stay in the UK. however the applicant needs to provide evidence from her own her confirming her ties and commitment with home country.

Thank you dear. You were a great help!! I would definitely write an invitation letter explaining the situation and the reason for the visit. There is a confusion here. My sister in law who lives with her mother is supporting her for the visit. So she is submitting her bank statements and property docs etc. also mother in law has savings so she will show that. Now that does not make me a sponsor but I am still sending my business and personal bank am statement plus invoices etc.

So my question is would this not make them confused as to who is supporting ie who is the main sponsor ?

And can anyone confirm the fee for applying your child's visa is £1545 (postal). I will be just applying for the child. Me and my wife have visa till 2016. It it's £1545 then I would be very annoyed. It's such a rip off. £1545 for a new born ??? Unbelievable.

The visitor needs to show that she would be able to sustain herself without recourse to the public fund. This could be either through her own means or through a sponsor or combination of the two. As long as you explain in your letter the details of support (e.g. accommodation, food etc) that you'd be offering to the visitor and she mentions the same in the relevant section of the application form, ECO would be able to take them into consideration in their decision making.
